You know what I like better? Vents in the hood to remove the heat ;)

Just sayin'...

"The thermal blanket keeps heat in"...
Not sure why you would want to keep heat in...

Fire blanket:

This is how I understand the purpose of the thermal / fire blanket:
I though we have a fire blanket and not a thermal blanket.

I thought the design of the blanket is this: 1). If/ When your engine catches on fire, the plastic buttons are designed to melt at a certain temperture, so that the blanket falls on top of the engine to help smother the fire.

Thermal blanket:: (The one with the aluminum liner) I thought it was suppose help keep the heat from blistering the paint maybe it does both, smother and paint blistering, I don't really know.
I've seen both, fabric and aluminum blankets.

I would say the main reason is to preserve the hood paint.
Second I would go with sound dampner.

Never heard of a "Fire Banket" on a hood, sorry.

There is only one reason that Toyota and most other vehicle makers put the pad on the underside of the hood. Sound supression. Although, I can see some circumstances that would use a type with heat reflecting capabilities. The Supra is not one of them.
