Trees are the worst.

As a result of doing something stupid or losing control, I would rather hit the tree than someone else. Hitting a mom with a loaded minivan, hurting everyone with me surviving would be worse than hitting a tree and dieing.

Damn IJ, that's hardcore. More details via PM if you're willing. Mine wasn't a car accident, but something similar happened to me when I went in for back surgery. I had a reaction to the anesthesia and basically drowned in my own blood. Internal bleeding FTL. Stopped breathing and my heart rate went down to something ridiculously low like 8 beats per minute or something. It happened twice! Praise God they brought me back. I was in the I.C.U. for 3 days!

Threadjack!

I used to have the same coil on my '82 Celica. One of my less than bright wrench buddies tried to test it by holding on to the coil lead while touching the head, because he was convinced it was dead. Then he got me to crank it over. I thought it was a bad idea, but he theoretically knew more about wrenching than I did back then...

He dropped like a sack of potatoes. I thought I'd killed him until I checked for a pulse. Then I just threw a bucket of water over him and laughed.

As already mentioned by IJ, I think we shouldn't have a false sense of security.

Just because our cars dont break apart doesn't necessarily mean its better for the safety of the occupants. Newer cars are made to disintegrate to absorb the forces of the crash, so we should keep that in mind.
Our cars are heavier and built with the consideration of the car, not so much about the occupant as newer cars.
