ah yea, a Winchester 30-30. You may miss the deer but there is still a chance of a kill from the sound of the report scaring the shit out of the deer so bad it has a heart attack.

HA! I love the .30-06 myself, but the .30-30 is a fun one ;)

Lower kit arrives on Monday for the AR. Really tempted to start a build thread for it :D Deciding on the buttstock next, then I'm going to start getting the parts for the upper assembly.

Oh i dont do this for hunting purposes, just targets.

But fuck the deer, I'M more likely to have a fucking heart attack!

Imagine somebody who is 5 ft 10in around 140 pounds trying to shoot a 30-30....

hey fellas, was looking around in here and decided to ask some advice. im looking to buy my first gun and not exactly sure where/what to look at. im not new to guns (started hunting at 10, 20 now) but ive never shot a hand gun, which im looking into. i dont know if i should get a second hand one thats broken in or get a new one that im sure will be reliable. please give me some pointers

my advise would be to go to a local gun range and rent a few if you areable to do that where u live, or see if someone there is willing to let you shoot one of theres, most people in the gun community are usually willing to help out in souch things, from my experence the best way to find the gun/s u like is to shoot them my personal favs is the springfield xd and the walther p99 thats just me :)

well it wasnt my gun... i thought it was told to me as a M14 short... and it belongs to my friends who is former special forces... who am i to argue right? ive only heard the term "mini" use for the M14s that are still in service today and that have been modified . his is an older style M14 from the veitnam era. as for the folding shoulder stock i think he did that himself. he cut the wood stock off right behind trigger/bolt section and add that one on. also if im not mistaken any M14 shoots a .223 round... but like i said if im not mistaken. Oh and mini or not an M14 is still an M14 no matter what you do to it.

Well, my rifle and pistol hankering has been satisfied for awhile... :)

Reciently bought the FNH FS2000.. It's been fun.. and it augments, and might someday replace my M4..

Pistol wise, I like 9mm's for the easy recoil, and cheap/plentiful ammo, and with the right round in there, they are as deadly as anything going IMNSHO.. sure the .45 is bigger, and the 40 is bigger and faster, but I've had a 9mm since the 80's... and hopefully will never need to use it in anger.. but it's served me well.

That being said, I wanted a laser grip.. CTC to be precise.. And they do not make them for my 9mm hand gun.. (They make it for the Beretta, but not the Taurus, my pistol has a safety on the frame that locks the slide in place, and is in the same place the laser is located on the CTC grips for the Beretta.....)

I've really liked my "clone" gun.. it was 300.00 new, and I've got rubber grips on it, and had to replace the roll pin that secured the better rear sights, v/s the drift adjustable only standard sight. (Mine is windage and elevation adjustable, and it makes this pistol a good shooter at 25yrds.. figure easy 3" groups.)

But laser options were to drill and tap the frame, and bolt one on.. or get some half assed clamp on laser, or a guide rod laser at 300.00+....

So screw it.. for 700.00, I have a completely new pistol, with the CTC grip laser, stainless slide and barrel, and one of the most comfortable for me, plastic pistols I've tried. (Would have bought another Taurus, but they don't have a CTC option, and I'm tired of waiting for one to come along..)

Thought about the XD's.. they are nice, have great reviews, and the price was better, but in the end, the lines, comfort and equal reliablity of the S&W M&P won the day.

In 9mm of course. (I was going to get the compact.. but after all the mental reasons for a compact gun, I'm such a big dude, that a small gun is not needed to conceal it... and the "medium" sized version with the standard barrel, and frame fit me best, and is still easy to conceal.. there is a longer barrel version, and a shorter frame, shorter barrel version, and they are all fine, but I like this one I got best for all around use.)

Man, I love Idaho.. Walk in, look at weapons.. Fill out paperwork.. phone call.. check out fine, pay for gun, and walk out with said firearm.

Not much government bullshit. (There used to be even less.. you went in, looked at gun.. showed your concealed permit.. paid for gun, and left at your leisure..)

Montana is only better in that you have NO TAXES.. (Would have saved me about 43.20, but hey, I'm not going to be in MT anytime soon, and I wanted the pistol now..) LOL

Christmas buying has begun!

I just bought this for my 7 year old to start responsible gun use early: :)

And Santa's bringing me this so we can shoot in the backyard together: Daisy Model 008K co2 pistol

My wife and stepdaughter are both going to either get a shrouded hammer, lightweight 38 snubbie Taurus 366, 383, 851, etc or S&W 638 bodyguard, 391, preferred, but will also consider DAO, concealed hammer, also. If $$$$ becomes an issue, then I'll buy them the 32 auto version of the Kel-tec since they both had issues with my P3AT's recoil in 380. It's a weak round, but it will serve their purpose.

BTW, if there is anybody who has a lead on a good buy on any good, used 38 specials I've described, let me know ASAP! I'm definitely an interested buyer, and even though a KY purchase is easiest, I'm willing to work out an FFL transfer if necessary!

It's going to be a very merry Christmas this year! :icon_bigg

We went to the range today. It was a little rainy. The goal was more for at least a partial break-in than real marksmanship. I also found that I shoot better right-handed even though I am a lefty, which sucks because my right hand is weaker.

100_0803&

Here is a shot of the USP. My wife must have taken this picture at just the right time to catch the muzzle flash.

100_0796%2025.jpg

Testing one of the ROMAKs. They both fired well, though I think one needs more break-in and lubrication. One of them had more instances of not going all the way into battery, so I had to re-cycle. Still, not a huge problem.
I will try to get a video of me bump-firing with the "better" one next time I go to the range.
I was firing at what I was told was a "pig" target down at the very end of the range. It was to the left of the picture, but you can see the berm that it was up against on the far left. I didn't have much of a problem hitting the target at all - with no effort, I saw the puffs/patches of dirt pop up behind the target. The moisture made it really easy to tell where I was hitting.

Overall it was a good day.

By the way, those muffs worked great until it was AK time. With the AK against the cheek, every 3-5 shots I would have to re-adjust them back on my ears. Next time I shoot the rifles I will probably just use plugs.

Yep, cheek weld, and ear muff protectors do not generally go well together.. (Use both ear plugs, and muffs, if you have them.)

I took the M&P out for 300 rounds tonight at the local indoor shooting range.. (Impact guns).. So busy I had to wait a few for a lane to open up.. and the place was totally smoke filled.. It's nasty. Instant cordite breath, and I'll be blowing black crusty boogers for a day at least! LOL

I'd rather have an open day with some rain than indoors when it's crowded like that.

OK, shooting report.. With crappy. Cheap. Dirty and often un-reliable Wolf ammo.. not one failure to feed, no stove pipes, and I did not clean the gun before use.. Just pulled it out of the case as it comes from S&W, and shot 300 in about 45min.

Groups are interesting. This is the first real time I've shot more than say 15 rounds with a laser sight helping on a pistol. (Have used a CTC forward laser grip on an AR, and found it very cool, as you can shoot from the hip, and pretty much hit what your aiming at..)

My impression was that I'm better with iron sights! No joke, it's a training thing I'm sure, and I could already see improvement as I put more rounds down range.. The hard part is looking at the target, and not the laser beam all lit up in the smoke filled range.. I swear it was like "Star Wars" with a beam from my gun, to the target.. very distracting indeed.

One cool thing is how the beam shows any waver, or movement on trigger pull, and I changed up my grip for this new gun, as a loose grip that works on my PT does NOT work on this new pistol.. I'd have to say the trigger on this M&P is lousy, but it's new, and it should improve I hope.. IF not, I'm going to have to get it worked, as I HATE IT. HATE is not strong enough of a sentiment for target shooting.. but under stress, in the heat of the moment, it's probably safer this way. Hell, I know it is. Then again, I've never accidently shot anyone with the PT either.. and it's "Stock" trigger is much more friendly to accurate target shooting. (And I've shot that pistol thousands of times, so it's not fair to compare them really...)

Cool news is that from the hip, rapid fire, all in the "10" Box but one flyer that would have hit the bad guy in the throat/upper chest. (Very nice verticle pattern of holes.. but I'm actually better with the Taurus.. again, not fair as I've shot that gun since the mid 80's..)

Jury is still out on the laser.. but it's my latest toy, so I'm sure as I get more time with it.. that my groups will improve. (Man, a shooting range really is a wide spread of people.. some can't hit jack shit, even with lasers, and some are there with 1500.00 .22 target pistols sporting EoTech sights.. and putting them into quarter sized groups at any distance for the most part. In the lane next to me, it was three people.. two big guys, and a petite woman.. The one guy brought the gun, a .45 1911, and none of them could shoot worth shit. She was actually better than either of them. She could put all 8 rounds on target.. The owner tried 8 head shots, and I think about 4 missed by a few inches or more.. LOL I was mean, pulled it into the same range at 7 yards there were shooting at, and "drew" a "have a nice day" smile/eyes/nose on my target for them.. LOL :) )

I have to admit with with new pistol, it was a crooked smile.. and one eye was lower than the other.. Dang, time for more rounds!

Hey drunk medic...,

You might want to rethink the way you grip your USP. Try putting your left hand up higher, around your other fingers. Your left thumb should be almost parallel with the slide and just below it.

This will give you MUCH better control over the pistol and better target aquisition after the first shot. I will try to find some pics.

Something like this. Modify this setup to make it comfortable for you...but this is the proper pistol grip technique. Having your left thumb forward is key. This should reduce your group size and make you feel more in control. Try it out.

Is that a doctor optic.. ? I think Burris makes one like this now too.. Nice shooting with it?

Those are not cheap, that's for sure. :)

My own grip is slightly different.. but I'll try the left thumb forward next time. (I've been locking my right thumb with my left over it, and left index finger over the trigger guard front.) That way looks very secure however.

Also did you add that stiple pattern to the frame? I've seen a few pistols with it up there, and now it makes sense with that grip. (I was thinking that I'd add some stiple to the trigger guard on my M&P, but with a different grip, it would be needed up on the frame side like that pistol.)
