I'm having a tough time finding an AK-47 variant with a side-folding stock that doesn't block the trigger in some way when it is folded. Actually I did see a [I think] VZ68 that met my criteria but it was $800. I'm not paying that much for an AK - sorry, I just won't. I have even looked at making my own receiver or just buying a blank and building my own but I still can't find the right kind of folding stock. There are nice ones like the Tapco, bit they thoroughly block the trigger when folded. Maybe I need to be more patient in my search.

Damn, you Americans are lucky...Canadian gun laws are ridiculously restrictive... :(

I don't know about that. There are those who fight to take these rights from us everyday. I think we are lucky that our country has a failsafe built into its laws. Everyone should have the right to protect themself from others. Any government that says otherwise seeks more control than any human should be willing to give. There is no reason that law abiding citizens should not be able to arm themselves to whatever extent they please, even if it is "more than they need", in the governments opinion or that of other law abiding citizens. The only ones who should worry about such things are criminals or a corrupt government that fears an uprising.

Guys, I rarely ask for favors. But this is a special case.

I'd like to ask that you show some support for my good friend Oleg Volk.

Oleg's forum was stolen by the webhost (the host changed the domain registration to his name, then locked out all the admins from the site).

This is outright theft.

This is the replacement site while the lawsuits run their course.

OMG someone took the high road?!

That was meant to be a pun, but that's not funny! That is a well respected, if not the BEST gun information website on the internet!

instead of making your own receiver, can you modify the stock?

AK&

i'm assuming you shoot right handed, so could you modify the stock and hinge to fold to the left? off the top of my head i can't remember anything on the left that'd block it (or can't be adjusted)?

edit: turn the hinge mechanism 180 degrees and then make a new stock out of aluminum that's got the locking pin on the other side?

I was looking at a model just like that. I think that is the Tapco stock. I might have to just get an AK and experiment with furnture, like you said.

I was thinking that maybe stocks were made that way on purpose, to hinder firing while folded here in the US. There is nothing on the left side - right side has chargng handle, ejection side, safety selector and is where you pull the trigger from of you are right- handed (most people).
Could also be so you put the left side against your back or side when using a sling, to avoid bruises

I found that the VZ58 has the folding stock that I want, but while looking identical, VZ58s are different than AKs internally, which could mean scarcity of replacement parts. VZs are also about 2x the price of a WASR10 AK. I might get a vanilla AK and just try to see if I can put a VZ folding stock on. Just because internals are different doesn't mean the furniture won't fit!

never thought about the bit with a sling, but you're probably right on that one. i don't see a problem with making the stock fold to the left, good luck and post some pics if you start it

I went to "visit" my newly arrived tool today, to check it out and to check and adjust the holster properly. I cannot take it home until after my concealed carry class next month. The law here says you either have to get a firearms purchase permit, which cost $5 [each] and must be approved and background checked by the Sheriff, and is limited [3 per year in this county], or you can get a concealed carry license and have unlimited purchase ability. I'll just wait - the Sheriff's office is a little far away to drive back and forth a few times.
Here are the pics:

I hope the carbon fiber look makes my draw faster.

That depends on your state's law regarding handguns...Federally it's not required and the state of Indiana doesn't require it.

You definitely need to make sure that you document it as yours though...you need to record the Date, Serial #, type of gun and make sure both parties sign. And make sure you make copies!!!!

As far as registration...it varies from state to state...AL no...but TX yes. Check with your local firearms retailer for current laws.
