I picked up a BARGAIN today! Beretta 92 FS for..... €149!!!!

Seriously good deal i think, although the advertised price was €249, i got a discount because i've brought Gunstore Paul a few people for business. About to go have a good target practice session now - pics to come! :)

Bama, I did! Ended up going to the local range, where they were bringing out a brand new one that people could rent. Put 200 rounds through it, came back out and handed the gentleman $550 cash for it on the spot.

I LOVE this gun! It certainly shoots better than I do (for now!) I want to get some pics of Laura with her new M&P 9c as well :)

Damned good price dude. That sells for about $525 here in the states which I think is about €380

On another note, Theresa fell in love with a Steyer AUG in .223 at the guns store last night, so we'll be picking that up soon after I pickup the new rifle.

The best bit about it, is just going into the store, seeing it, saying 'hmm, i'll have that', handing over the money, flashing my card and then walking out with it - no annoying background checks, no BS :D

Most Handguns here are very nicely priced - my Walther cost me €349 with two mag's, which works out to about $500 - and thats including TVA @ 19.6%

I suppose because Walther is just a day's drive from here, and Beretta is about the same. How much would import duty be there for one?

If you live outside the US and wish to sell an item to a US resident, the item will need to be legally imported into the US. Any US Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder can import a firearm for personal use or on behalf of an unlicensed person by filling out the proper paperwork.

According to the ATF:

(L1) May a licensed dealer who does not have an importer's license make an occasional importation?

Yes. A licensee may make an occasional importation of a firearm for a nonlicensee or for the licensee's personal use (not for resale). The licensee must first submit a ATF Form 6, Part I to the Imports Branch for approval. The licensee may then present the approved Form 6 and completed ATF Form 6A to the U.S. Customs Service. Contact the Bureau of ATF, Imports Branch, Washington, DC 20226, (202) 927-8320 for forms.

The forms are available here:

http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/5000.htm#firearms

If the item is not a firearm (such as scopes, holsters, etc.) then the item can be sent into the US without any special importation procedure other than filling out a standard US Customs form.

However to be honest, it's not worth it, it never is. The general rule of thumb is that the gun will wind up costing the final recipient twice the original purchase price. Even with your discounts that's not a bargain. Not to mention the potential legal ramifications if anything is done incorrectly.

03BamaGT can probably answer this better than I (since he holds an FFL), but my understanding of this whole process is that it's simply an insane pain the the ass.

Mike - what i meant was, is the price that you pay for them there, dependant on them being imported and thus being charged duty, or for some other reason?

Oh, other positive here - i can buy a suppressor off the shelf, no ATF equivalent paperwork needed.

I suspect the imports are more expensive for all of the above reasons. Our domestic stuff isn't quite as pricey.

That's a nice benefit. I'd love to have a suppressor for my .308 but the ATF paperwork is a hassle, there's a $200 "tax stamp" that has to be paid for just to own one and there are a ludicrous number of onerous restrictions on them.

Have you considered an STG 556 instead? I haven't had an opportunity to shoot either of them, but I have held a couple of both and the STG 556 is pretty badass. I also like the forward assist that isn't offered on an AUG.

amazon.com is now listing Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes for $6!

Dive on in for those of you who don't have what the library called "stirring, beautifully composed, and humane" what Penthouse called "stunning" and Guns n' Ammo called "the Ultimate Second Amendment coffee table book."

It's also what amazon.com called "one of the ten best art books of 2007".

Perhaps they're trying to flush their stock now that it's 2009....

In any event -- it's cheap right now!

That's an example of a bad reloader who has failed to do his job properly - reloads are not always a bad thing.
