I went to go test drive a 95 lt1 6 speed coupe today. Yellow outside, with 140k on the clock. I had never driven a c4 before, and I am looking to get a reliable cheap car to drive daily.

Having previously owning a 03 cobra, 05 STi, and 91 Turbo supra, I need another fast car. Im driving a 99 clk 430 MB right now and the power isn't enough.

The car ran well, but seemed to need new plugs. Anytime you went over 75% throtle, you could feel it missfire, and just feel slightly bogged down. The paint is in pretty good shape except for one spot on the front bumper where it looks to be coming up. The ride control light is on, but he said the light comes on at 120k to remind you to get it checked out, but I dont belive that....

I dont know if I would purchase this car unless I could get it for a steal. He was asking 9,900 but said he would be flexable on the price due to some of the problems.

Overall I liked the car due to the fun to drive factor. It wasn't really fast, but handled well and could be a fun car to drive every day. Anyways, just wanted to post it up. thanks for reading, and kyles a homo.

well the 95-96 got the big brakes (13 inches baby!)

92-96 got the lt1 and ZF 6 speed which is a way better then the 240 HP l98 with the doug nash 4+3 tranny.

the lt1 is 300 hp and 340 ft pounds; intake, cam, roller rockers, exhaust gets you to the mid 12's and reliable.

My dad's shop does a lot of work on the same LT1 Camaros...they seem to be problematic, and a lady drives it and does routine checkups but still seems to come in.

I heard (and I may be wrong) that C4's tend to be more fickle than other gens of Vette's. Especially since they were built during GM's not-so-golden years, build quality and longterm longevity are questionable. GM's built in the 90's had more engine problems than anything, but that was more limited to their V-6's iirc. I guess the best way would be how you buy any used car: check everything, electrical accessories, how the engine runs, etc. Make sure there aren't any leaks, the power steering is tight, no weird noises, etc. Any and all kinds of "minor" problems in a C4 can turn into huge headaches. You don't NEED another fast car as much as you WANT one... O and if the ride control light comes on at 120K... and the car is at 140K.... what the hell was he doing for the last 20K miles? I would personally find a Trans Am WS6. I've always loved those cars.. But too bad the F-body frame was like a piece of taffy compared to C5's. And probably C4's too...

missfire = opti spark IMO
could be plugs or owires.....but i have dealt with lt1's a lot and missfiring is usually the opti-spark

I had a 92 Vette. Fun, but every bump would turn on a new light on the dash. Sold that puppy for a '85 911.

The 911's are very reliable. I think you should go drive one. I like the air cooled ones, but I'm sure the newer ones won't disappoint.

might make your wallet cry though...
