My dad had an 81 when I was little. I remember working on it in the parking lot at the apartment complex I used to live in, helping him push start it when the starter went out (we were dirt poor, he couldn't afford to replace it for a couple weeks), and the road trips he used to take me on (though not where we went). After he got rid of it and got an 89 Celica, I kinda forgot cars existed (the Celica seriously did not have one single problem the first 11 years he had it, then it developed a PS leak and needed a clutch) until my uncle took me for a ride in his Cobra. I spent about a month looking at cars, trying to find one I really liked, but I didn't have a lot of luck. December 06 I went Christmas shopping in Greenwood and saw Boost Lee's car in a parking lot and that was pretty much that. Since then, I've been hooked. I stole my car from a knucklehead for $2200 in so-so condition the day after Thanksgiving. That night, on the way to my uncle's house to start the repairs (haven't even owned the thing an hour and already have to fix shit?!) I took a turn in second at about 2000RPMs, and, after straightening out, I nailed it. Turns out dirt+boost =
That was the confirmation of nearly a year of obsession, Even now, when stupid random crap keeps me from driving it (right now it's a timing belt. I've got a new belt but no money for a pulley puller :'(), I still smile when I walk past it on my way to my shitty DD. Sometimes, I sit in my driveway when I get home and just look at it's sexy ass. I plan on keeping my current one and picking up a Garnet Pearl 92 and either running a GE or a 1J with a decent sized single for good gas mileage and reliability.
Matt, don't feel too bad about the compressor surge noises, I do that too lol
My only problem with my Supra is that it waits until I'm broke and it's -5* to break.
BTW, Supras don't necessarily make you fail school. I wrote about the day I got into cars and the night I got my Supra for a personal narrative for AP English and got an A on it lol
