Didnt know whether this is off-topic or general but I posted in general bc I figured more people would see it. Please move if needed.

A friend of the neighbor across the street from my friend backed into the drivers door of my Supra. I was not home at the time (ironically enough, my friend and I were out looking at a new car for him bc his supra was hit). Anyways, all I got was a name and number.

I don't know where she lives.I made a claim, and they told me to call and get her insurance info but she wont give it up bc she says she doesnt want to go through insurance. I tried to file a police report but they wont let me unless I know the make, model, and license plate of the vehicle.

Anyone have connections that can help me?

Her name and number: LeighAnn Phon 682-558-0636

Thanks a bunch guys,

Chris

EDIT: I went to a body shop that does a lot of classics in Haltom City. He gave me an estimate of $963, to repair the dent and blend. I am going to wait and get the whole car repainted this summer since the dent isnt horrible.

I just called the lady and to get her insurance info and tell her how much it will be. She says, I don't want to deal with insurance so ill just write you a check.

But now a day later, she is backing out of what she said.

Tell the police what happened. And fast. Have them go check out and see that she has damage on her car. Get her addy, and the police should let you file a hit and run report w/o make or model, and you can proceed from there.

Shit man, sorry to hear that... You should definitely have some recourse, even without all that other info... Wish i could help, but i don't know how these things work over that way.

They cant check out what damage she has bc I have no address to give them. And they arent very cooperative anyways. I already tried to do a police report and they said no.

I am afraid there are a bunch of Phon's. There is a very large Vietnamese population in dfw.

yup, I found 13 of them during my search, none of the phone numbers were the same area code though.

When I did a phone look-up on her it showed that it was in Arlington TX, but that could just be the location of the provider or whatever if its a cell phone.

It is definitely a cell phone. Everywhere I look says its a cell number based in blah blah blah.

What kind of useless police dept won't let you file some kind of report or another with out make/model.
Call them AND TELL THEM TO WRITE YOU A REPORT for a hit and run. Its their job. Obviously they must be able to write reports for hit and runs, not like they're particularly rare... Don't give them a choice.

And can the police dept really not reverse look up a phone number?? Have them let you talk to a supervisor. Don't settle for that crap.

Ill call them again. But filing a report wont do me any good. If I dont get money from her my insurance will take care of it. And I doubt the police would investigate a traffic accident in depth enough to look up her phone number and track her down.

It's not hard work, though. You give them a name. If she is local its not exactly hard to find them. Any PD worth their salt can figure out who and where they are. You already have done the hard work, name and a phone.
The thing is they won't do anything with your case without a report ;)

Also, since you know who it is who did it, why should you pay the deductible and, iono who your insurance is, but even risk higher rates? Just do a bit of work and save yourself some.

Like I said before. I have tried. The police wont do anything with just a name and phone number. But as stated in the previous post, I will call them again tomorrow.

My rates wont go up. I just called them to speak with them further and they said if she doesnt pay, they will cover me and my rates will not go up.

Well heres what happened tonight. I told her all about Texas law and that she will have her car impounded, and get some very steep fines. So i suggested that she pay with a cashiers check, written in my name, within 24 hours or I am calling the police. Her friend writes a check and give it to my friends mom instead of me. I got home and the check was written out to the body shop and not me. So I go over there to trade the check for one in my name and she tries to argue that insurance does it the same way. They write it to the body shop. I told her no, thats not how it works, and she keeps arguing so I left it at that. I went home without a check in my name but I have one for the body shop. Looks like the Fort Worth Police department will be getting a hit and run report tomorrow.

That's f'd... People need to man up for the retarded shit they do. Call the police... Regardless of what they decide to do, they HAVE to do something, and you aren't going to get anywhere without a police report.
