I've got a 2.5" Borla ProXS, stock cat and no resonator. I'm surprised at how much smoother my car sounds. It's not raspy and there's no popping that I've noticed aside from the expected rumble when coasting while in gear. I still may put on a resonator, I like a quiet exhaust.

I suspect if I added a resonator my car would be close. I actually bought two of the Borla's, wanted to use one as a resonator... it was 3" too long. I'll probably still add a resonator, but not right now.

So you're aying that the only way to get rid of the raspy popping noise is to weld in another resononator in addition to the one that pacesetter already has? Where did you weld yours in, just after the flange after the cat(or testpipe).:icon_frow As far as the fitment issues, I've heard that there were problems but I didn't feel like spending more money to get one that was already custom fit. I'm hoping though that the main problem with the sound will be from the crack around the old header.

this is a neat thread...

a while back i had a thread about totally removing the muffler but LEAVING the resonator and placing a pipe in place of the muffler place; some people (but not many) said it would sound ok/good, and some said it would sound like shit.

while i figured this to be true, the few that said it might be all right intrigued me, until i saw a clip of a supra with no exaust. it sounded like shit. but i just realised it had no piping besides the downpipe....

so if i were to remove the muffler i'd still have the cat, resonator, and several feet of exaust pipe.

has anyone tried that combo before?

I stripped out the video, it was too dark and the camera wouldn't focus. I must say, it's sooooo much quieter when you're in the car (not at WOT though).

Chris89, you've been asking, you can hear my intake in the second and third clips.

The gravel like noise is the studded tires I've got on the rear of the car.

EDIT: I'm running a stock cat, 2.5" pipe and a Borla ProXS muffler.

So.. I am now tired of my exhaust. I am pulling it off this weekend and storing it until summer when something cooler goes in the engine bay.

so what are you putting the stock back on or what?

if you have the stock exaust and resonator, could you get a quick sound clip of your car without the muffler?

My na sounds so badass open header. Me and friends had a HELL of a time running it for a week. Best time ever. The smell is HORRIBLE and you get really light headed after about 20min of driving (A BAD THING). It sounds like a cammed out v8 in a high gear cruising and can be heard from MILES AWAY at WOT, louder than most highly modified v8s i've heard at the drag strip, if the engine is in Top shape like mine, it sounds amazing, I'm gonna put a new clutch in my car this weekend ill take some pics of my setup, and show in detail the modifications that had to be done, the resonator went right where the stock one went, don't worry i'll get a crap load of pics. I can't wait to see how my 7m sounds open header with the obx, ill get a Bunch of videos! and a crap load of pics, I love this shit.

how could not having a muffler make it smell bad.....

i just wondered if the exaust on a N/A with the cats and resonator there but NO MUFFLER would sound. not open header or straight pipe... just placing a pipe where the rearmost muffler would be on a stock supra.

but i guess without a muffler it would still be hella loud even with the resonator... i guess if nobody does it, its not good.

i have a few videos of my old engine with a stock cat and straight back 2 1/2" exhaust with NO muffler.... ill grab the links... and post real quick.

do you have a light weight flywheel or something? the revs seem to drop real quick after u rev, faster than normal. Maybe the mk2's have lighter flywheels than the mk3.
