As people have said, when you get pulled over, stop and turn the engine off and nothing more. The cop may get suspicious if you start moving around in your car. Wait until he can see everything you're doing, so he knows you're simply getting your license and proof of insurance (and not a weapon).

The seatbelt violation was tough luck, but consider yourself lucky that you didn't get charged with reckless driving. In PA (my home state), getting caught going 30mph+ is an automatic license suspension.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but in some cases in Virginia you can spend up to a week in jail for reckless driving(anything over 30).

Just be glad that cops actually do there job, because if someone robs you or beats you up you'll probably be the first to call them.

The more I read this thread, and think about it... You should go down to the police station, ask for the officer who pulled you over, and thank him for still having a license/not being escorted to the station in the back of his car.

You may still get your license revoked though. My friend got a ticket for driving with someone in the car when he hadn't had his license for more than 6 months, $50 ticket, no big deal... got a letter in the mail a month later saying his license is suspended for 30 days.
So keep checking your mail, you might get a nice suprise.

i love these threads.

you sir..are an idiot.

speeding like that...putting others in danger...he should have arrested you.
as for the seatbelt violation....where were you in drivers ed the day they told you to sit facing forwards hands on the wheel until the officer approaches.

you know how many people get shot at for fumbling around the glove box before the officer is in a safe position?

you idiot...calling that cop a pig is like calling the garbage man a jackass for taking away your precious trash.

grow the hell up..slow the fuck down...and learn a thing or two before you kill yourself in a car wreck

Va's driving laws are variable enforced. I've known folks to get suspended for wreckless and some not too..

Wreckless in Va is 15 over I beleive...and if you're doing 80mph anywhere in the state...its wreckless thanks to the statewide speedlimit cap of 65mph

YOU,

it sucks i know, but you just have to accept sometimes your the lesser person here, you F$^$#d up, accept it and learn from it, failing to learn something from this experience will further prove your ignorance. Take some responsibility, not bashing you just trying to keep you and your car from ending up wrapped arround a tree like tin foil, i've seen it happen.

I admit, i have done some REALLY stupid stuff, but i look back and realize how lucky i am not to have died. I got caught doing 80 in a 55 just after hitting about 115, i SHOULD have been arrested and thrown in jail, But, when i saw the cop coming the opposite direction and noticed my radar detecter freaking out i immediatly put on my blinker before the cop could pull a u turn, i pulled over parked and turned my car off with hands on wheel, cop came to my car and looked at me all i said was "you got me" he gave me a ticket for 15+, gave the guy i was racing (who didnt stop right away) reckless driving and mandatory court. Funny thing i was in front and i walked away with a petty offense.

I've done some pretty dumb shit and a few times I've been caught. You can't blame anyone but yourself.
