strange new issue, rich shut-off (long read)

so i went to my first drift event last night and the car was running decent, but rich. a couple hours in, after maybe 12-15 runs, i'm sitting in the line idling, and the a/f gauge starts drifting towards 10, then it felt like the engine loped, then it shut off. i tried to restart, but the s-afc wasnt getting power and it was pretty hot, so i bypassed it, and tried to start again. i noticed that the fuel pump wasn't coming on, and checked the fpr gauge, and there was no pressure. we pushed my car out of the line, and i sat there for like 20 minutes calling my father and uncle to see if they had any ideas. after the mid session drivers meeting, i went back to the car, plugged the s-afr back in and figured i'd try one more time, and viola, it started right up, s-afc had power again, but the a/f ratio was still in the 10-11 range at idle, and vacuum was at 18mm hg. i shut it off, and made another phone call, and started it again like 10 mins later, and everything was back to normal, so i swaped wheels and headed home. on the drive home, every once in a while at steady cruise, the a/f would drift into the 10-11 range. i haven't gotten to check for codes yet, but it seems this is electrical. could the s-afr have overheated? or could it have overheated due to whatever caused the pump to temporarily stop working? could it have been an issue with the fuel pump relay or maybe the computer?

bump, anyone have any input?
just thought I'd add, water temps never got higher than below half the gauge. only code that shows is 51, but I think thats cause I have no neutral safety switch

i have the hks s-afr and it likes to go on the fritz every now and then. when mine loses power car runs for complete ass like if its running and it power fluxes. if i go to turn car on and the s-afr has no power car wont start cause the ecu isnt getting any signal from anything. cause theres no power to the safr. hope this helps. im purely going on my experience with my car

^ back up there. your car should start just fine but in failsafe mode. the only thing the s-afr should hinder is the afm input to the ecu should it not power up. other wise if its wired in correctly its visibly showing you an issue with the ecu's power supply. No power to ecu = no power to s-afr

well i got stuck at a napa with a car that cranked but was a no start. i had fuel and power but no spark. i was mesin with it for almost an hour before my buddy called back and was like check s-afr since it used to be his. sure enough no power there. so moved some wires by ecu and bam started right up

oh and i never cut wires to the ecu just splicing

hmm, i'm going to check the wiring on the s-afr, and at the computer. I spliced in with the taps that came with it, maybe that could be the problem

i used those and a few days later i threw those away they are junk. i peeled back the covering on the stock harness and and satuck the sarf wirse through the stock ones and taped them and wire loomed it. worked like a charm ever since

You should always solder connections like these. Twisting and taping = Asking for trouble.

(satuck the sarf wirse) wow what the hell was i drinkin.

ya i know lack of soldering iron im plannig on doin ms2 soon so i am ditching the s-afr to much fuckin around tuning 1 and 2 percent here and there every time i drive the car

You can get a soldering iron for under 20 bucks. I think i paid like 35 for my 2 temp solder gun at radio shack. IMO twist n tape is like 100x worse than using wire taps.

that right there proves my point. Its not piossible for the s-afr to control the powering of the ecu. Why did it work after you wiggled some wires? bad wiring...
