So I just fired my engine up for the first time in months. I had my engine out and did the oil squirter's and pumps and such.

I just started her and she fired up but rough idle and the rpm's would drop low then die but this is cause i haven't set the timing and tps just yet.

Then I start her and run to the front before it dies to adjust the cps so it will stay up then attempt to adjust timing but I couldnt make it in time of 3 tries before it died.

Then on the last I heard a electrical sound like something died, like the sound of a transformer in the distance going out and now it turns but no spark. It came from the driver side what seemed like the corner toward the window but halfway down the engine. Everything looks just fine after inspecting.

No codes and I checked the fuse box and kick panel they're all good.

Could the igniter have died?

Did what I described narrow anything down?

I really hate electronics and measuring resistances. I have no problem tearing my engine apart but when it comes to electrical stuff I'd rather eat dog poop.

Edit,

So it's really random it just started and I dialed in the timing.

I shut it off then go to start it again a minute later and as it was cranking and about to start it made the short-out sound again, smelled like something burnt and now no spark again.

What could this be!??!

what else did you mess with?

you say you just pulled the motor to do "oil squirter's and pumps and such". what does that mean? your talking about adjusting the cps and tps but why would you be messing with those if you just pulled the oil pan?

more detail on what EXACTLY you did will help. if it ran fine before it has to be something you were working on.

Alright well I had low oil pressure and I thought I spun a bearing so I pulled my motor and plastigage checked out. I replaced squirters, shimmed oil pump & filter relief by 5mm, water pump, new crank pully becase a sheared bolt cause the guide to detatch, timing belt, timing pulley spring. Cleaned head and block because i forgot to fipg block last time. Cleaned viton off hg and copper sprayed, reinstalled arp studs, a lot of new gaskets all new hoses, converted usdm throttle body to jdm linkage but with us tps and pickup. New 180deg thermostat, permacool ps cooler some other little stuff I can't remember.

The engine was out and disassembled the cps is new and the tps was taken off and installed because I did this to my TB: http://www.supracarparts.com/info/?p=11

They both need calibrating that's not the problem I fine tune those all the time since I've been through hell and back, another run round and some with this whole Supra experience. Not complaining it's worth it I've learned a lot but DAMN!!

So I just measured with my voltmeter and my coilpacks and plugs check out fine although the igniter 6p is not reading any voltage and I don't understand why because it looks tits.

Unless there's not supposed to be a middle pin??

Otherwise it's insulated and seems fine.

I'd really like to get this figured out tonight if possible.

Check for grounds? I had a similar problem and it was a lose ground for me.

The only ground that is actually in bad condition is the ground on the tranny cross member/mounting. It's corroded pretty bad. But I have a brand new ground from body to tranny side sight cover bolt on driver side.

If the cps is installed correctly the car should atleast idle? unless you get no fuel or any amount of air at all. I had a bad afm car would still run. I do believe the cps is what controls your spark as well, check that.

By chance does your car have the anti theft? i have ran into problems with it being stupid, sometimes it would crank no start (no spark) or not crank at all.

Grounds at the intake manifold?

Is check engine light on when the key is at on?

Actually I'm not sure if I have all my grounds to be honest.. These are the grounds I'm aware of though and please let me know if I am missing any or have something wired wrong you can see because I'm not an expert and maybe there's something obvious I missed.

Haven't taken care of this one yet dunno if it's even supposed to be there really.

Batt ground of course

Bit old

Here's what I'm worried about.. does that ground go on the IM?

Tps wouldn't contribute to the starting problem.
I've driven with it out and in tune it will give a different pedal response depending on where it's set and changes idle a bit. Yeah it will throw a code and all but I like to calibrate it while the car is running so I can get the most accurate tune.

Battery - Grounds @ Block....

Those 3 you have grounded on the mount ground at the Intake manifold.

See Post 12.

What I was talking about in #12 is the corroded not secured ground on my cross member and the new one I have from body to tranny side sight cover bolt.

I only have 2 grounds on the engine mount from the harness but if I'm getting this right I need to switch these 2 grounds with the battery gound?

Aorry i didn't see your post but I agree with the cps theory unless I'm not getting spark which is the case here I believe because i can smell the fuel and air is definitely sufficient.

yeah my car has anti-theft but i've never had issues with it, i don;t use it either.
