Stock inter-cooler pipes are not a good set up to use, although they are sized for the correct volume of compressed air that a CT-26 can push.
Using a 2" inter-cooler pipes will work with the up to 550/600 hp after that you could go to 21/2" piping.
Using too large of inter-cooling pipes will give you more trouble than staying to the smaller piping. If you turbo can not fill the pipes and the inter cooler you will not only see a lot of lag but less performance from your car.
You must maintain your psi in the intake so that when the valves are open you will fill the combustion chamber full.
You can tell if you are over size by how much your blow off works. If you are not hearing it working ,than you are not filling you system with the volume and psi need for performance running.
So I would say that the correct size doe's make a difference.

based upon this question id guess you dont quite know you way around the motor.

No, it means that I was inside watching my child and hadnt gone outside to check the hose that runs from pressure sensor to wherever it goes.
Although, based on your answer, you seem to make rash decisions and observations.:biglaugh:

Anyway- I'll go with the 2" and leave it at that. Thanks for all the informed info, I'll go back to my normal lurking, i.e. searching and reading alot.

Good, pipe replacement should be the first thing done, that crap plastic and rubber has to go. Especially where it goes through the fender its so kinked and small right there, its a huge bottle neck

i didn`t read the whole post, but when i changed to a big front mount intercooler (JDM made in china) the car felt it accelerated faster, like if it was breathing better. I had more throttle response, definitly a must upgrade.
Edit: i had 2.5 inches metal intercooler pipes and stock intercooler.

When you replaced the IC pipes, did you guys need to remove the pass. side fender? It looks like I can get away with not taking off the bumper, but that damn pipe that runs in front of the pass front wheel well looks like it is a bitch to get to.

j3- yeah Ive done a few cars so I get confused from one motor to the next sometimes.

shouldnt need to go that far with it, i can get to ANYTHING i need by dropping the splash guards under the fog light in regards to under the headlamp areas.

Depends. On the pre-89 cars the fender piece is two parts so it's easy to pull, on an 89+ you neer to either loosen or remove the front bumper (I loosened and the bumper will flex, but if I did it again I'd just drop the bumper).

Cooleeze pipes are 2.5" at their smallest FYI.

Remove splash guard under fog light then use hack saw blade to cut them off and throw them in trash can ; With 2." hard pipes , you'll have plenty of room there without remove front pumper . Remember this mod only good for bone stock ct26 .

Used 2" pipes all the way and the throttle response is much better- less lag, and full boost(9psi) by 3K in 3rd gear. Very happy with the change.

The "kit" I had was the generic pipe kit that you cut to fit. Have 2" and 2.5" sets from old turbo add-ons Ive done on other cars and pulled out before selling them in stock form.

Starting with a factory turbo system is much easier and will be the way I go from now on.
