ok i got the motor in today and started it up it ran ok for a minute and idles fine till i took it off the jack stands now it will start and run for a few seconds but at a really rough idle. i checked all my grounds and my electrical connections every thing is hooked up. some of the vacuum lines i can't figure out where they go, like there is a line coming off the vacuum line deal that bolts under the intake it did not have any vacuum to it. the other ones are hooked up the bypass i can't figure out where it hooks up. the egr lines are hooked up my knock sensors are hooked up if i hold the gas and it gets to 2000 rpms it evens out. but if i take my foot off the gas it won't idle it just dies. now it is bored .040 over but stock style pistons. i moved it out of the garage and it dogs down until i get the rpms up i just don't know i'm thinking vacuum leaks but i can't figure out where all the lines go also a line under the intake has some kind of filter on it and a rubber deal around the conection maybe thats it i just need some help thanks for any pointers. ohh and no check engine lights are on.

run it for codes even if the check engine light is off. underneath the intake you have two vsv one for fuel pressure up and the other towards the starter i believe is for the egr? Get a mirror under the front of the intake and check that the lines are hooked up. vac leaks are death. you should have a steel set of lines that that run from the front side of the intake and down underneath, that is where all you vac lines hook to and are routed where they need to go. TSRM has all the diagrams. double check your egr valve also, vac applied at the wrong time will cause similiar issues. make sure those lines are in correct order as well. If it is stuck open/closed you will have a bad idle.

the hose going to the power stering pum is hooked uup it goes under the acordian tube around the front of the block with that hard line then from there i have no clue where it goes i pluged it into the vacuum lines on that distribution thing that bolts to the intake ohh where does the vacuum come from for the bypass valve or is it a blow off valve

Do you have gas in the tank? lol i had that problem, i was going crazy trying to figure it out,,,my car doesnt like to run under 2 gal and even then its crap. i think its the tt pump. if you have gas, run the engine and get carb cleaner/ether etc, spray various area's of the vaccum hoses, when the engine idle goes up, youve found the leak

if its a fresh rebuild i would avoid starting until the problem is fixed so you can properly break it in and the repair manual link would be a very good start.
