Hi, everyone! I have starting problem on my '87T. When I'm gonna to fire (especially when my car stand for a few hours), starter turns engine well, but when it should fire one of cylinders, looks like big voltage drop, so the engine do not start, but I hear sound of one or two wroking cylinders.
After that, I disconnect all spark plug wires, and check spark. I have spark only on third coil (cyl 5 and 2). All coils are good (I cheked it by swaping them). I checked wiring (from igniter to coils) also, and it is good too.

If I'm trying to start engine by towing car (I mean connect my car with another and then release clutch) - it starts well.
So, I have theory: my starter consumes too much power, that there isn't enough voltage for spark.

May be you have any ideas?

PS: another strange thing: if i started engine, I can turn off inginion, and then car starts Ok using starter, so the trouble apears after few hours turned off engine.

PS2: sorry if I wrote not quite understandable, my English is not good enough.

As Poatree said, it could be the CPS (the device which electronically simulates a distributor). Try wiggling the CPS wires when you have the problem and see if that helps. Also check your engine error codes and let us know what you find.

It almost sounds like starter contacts. If the starter hasn't been touched in about 12 years the contacts are probably worn out. Other things that come to mind - your battery ground wires or the dedicated wire for the starter might have gotten corroded and they aren't making good contact. A voltmeter reading would be handy.

Well, I see Russian is quite popular here. May be, we will talk using it? ;-)
1). no error codes
2). problem occured after rebuild...
3). I dont think, it is CPS, because if I started car - it runs fine (and if i had bad wiring, car won't start using another car).

So, there are two possible locations of problem: starter and igniter - anymore ideas?

PS: can I check igniter in some way?

PS2: Thanks for answers, I see my English is not very bad, so you could understand me ;-)
