solid motor mounts?

Ok any one out there running solid motor mounts. I have a pre 89 gte. Im a tech; In some cars I have installed solid motor mounts in some cars and it feels like the car is going to fall apart and some cars it feels slightly different from stock. So how does it feel on the mk3 7m motor pre 89. I don't want to replace them and then the car feel horrid. thank you.

no... they don't



i welded my stock mounts up, and the vibration isnt too bad. nowhere near as bad as my srt-4 with semi-solid (urethane) mounts.

i'll be replacing them with OEM mounts tho, the old ones are 20 yrs old, even just replacing the will be a big difference

our blocks are a little on the loose side especially at high rpm operation so i am not a huge fan of using the solid mounts as it stresses the block even more. unless you are tearing the rubber mounts then i would stick with rubber or at the worst get the poly mounts from BIC

Not quite. They have a rubber layer in them to dampen vibration. There is no metal to metal contact between the two halves.

My car had solid mounts when i bought it. Thought it was the worst invention ever made.
Returned them to stock.
That's great if you're running stock power levels, but those of us who aren't can tear the rubber mounts in half in under a month, speaking from experience.

There not bad at all. I only notice it at idle in drive when the engine is under that slight load. Off idle and in park or neutral isnt even that noticeable. Im 89 with te square mounts and i welded them with pieces of 1/4 inch steel.

If you're 89+, can you swap in 87 mounts and brackets? I just run stock 87 mounts with a Bic poly dampener, and it's been fine at 375-450 hp, no engine vibes, and very little movement.

yeah both of mine were ripped in half

honestly i didnt have big complaints with my solids... they felt just a little harsher than my ripped rubber ones :)

Solids with a 4mm worth of silicone bushing between the frame and mount. Ran it with out the silicone bushings but made too many vibration noise in the car(things rattling) Quite a bit better with the silicone though so I will see how long it lasts before it deteriorates.

don't go with solid mounts if you can avoid it unless you drag race everyday of your life then yeah. I have them in my 90' turbo as of now and completely hate them. I will be changing them to semi solids soon

89+ and pre 89 mounts and brackets are not interchangeable, the area on the X member where the mounts sit on is at a different height and angle. The 89+ are more horizontal. Inline 6's are pretty smooth engines, they only vibrate at idle and low rpms, past 2000 rpms or so and it smoothes out. The BIC Pre 89 Polys are a great comprimise between full solid and stock, and way stronger than the stock mounts.
