I love mine! Mines a lil taller than the one pictured by like 1", but this is another i made that im eventually gonna get around to try. Definately recommend new bushings at the same time!

Love the way it feels while driving!

Ive never grinded with the sogi mod. Its just nice not to hear "holy shit that shifter is huge."

Agreed, never grinded with mine either.

Stock shifter looks long enough to be out of a damn pickup truck...:biglaugh:

Just did it today after reading this thread. I've been thinking about doing it for a while now. Well I never ended up doing it because everybody had mixed opinions of it, but I have an extra shifter that I will be sending to nashman shortly, so I thought, hey, may aswell try it!

So I broke the shifter apart.. that was fairly easy... took it to an exhaust shop to chop the small end off the lower shaft and had them chop the threaded part off the top part and then they welded it onto the lower part.

I'll have some pictures of it installed tomorrow, forgot to get some pictures of it without the shift boot on tho.

Personally, I really think it's a nice improvement over the stock truck shifter. I had already replaced my bushings with the toyota truck ones, but just breaking it in half definately made it feel ALOT more notchy, clicks right into gear! My main concern with doing it was that the shifter would sit too low and not feel comfortable with my arm on the armrest. This isn't really an issue at all, your hand rests ontop of the shift knob rather than around the sides and feels just fine!

Definately recommend it over using the stock shift knob.. Now I just need to put away some extra cash and get one of those sexy nashman shifters!

in my old supra, my friend used to call the stock shifter the "super throw shifter"...then i did the sogi mod...and he liked it a lot better...

I really do like it! It probably doesn't even compare to a real short throw shifter.. but I mean... compared to stock it is a huge improvement!

What does it matter what your friend thinks? If he makes fun of your taillights and tells you get get some Altezzas, are you gonna do that too? If your buddy is offended by the length of the stock shifter, maybe he is secretly gay and doesn't want you to know that your hand on the shifter reminds him of cock.

I'm not gonna rag on you guys anymore about the shifter but I think some of you don't understand something. The stock shifter isn't as long as you think it is in comparison to other cars. The center piece in the Supra dips down around the shifter and you see alot more of the shaft. Other cars, like the MK4, have a center piece that doesn't dip like that, so more of the shifter shaft is covered.

It's your car. So if the shifter makes you feel better, that's what matters. But be real. Your friend's opinion on your shifter should be irrelevant.

What does the length of the shifter matter anywho? My C's is the same height as the stock shifter. It's just an adjusted pivot point, a simple lever.

Is it some general rice assumption that the shorter the shifter the shorter the throw?

Thats stupid, The above picture is from the interior of the Koenigsegg CCR. Thats the longest shifter Ive ever seen. Its that way so the hands leave the steering wheel for the shortest time possible. According to the rice assumption that shifter must be like driving a mid engined Peterbuilt truck.

Its all about the pivot point and physics really. Go read up on how a manual transmission works, then pivot points, simple levers, work and such.

Shorter shifter does make the throw shorter... That's basic geometry.

But not nearly as much as a C's or other shifter where the fulcrum is moved.

Well I take that back, Changing the pivot point for shorter movement also multiplies the work load.

Also, Don't bitch about C's shifters being so expensive, If your looking at $300 price tags, your looking in the wrong spots.

I am thinking about the sogi mod also, not because i need a shorter throw, ( i dont race, i just love my mk3) and the shorter shaft looks more clean cut (ish)

I would assume that with a stock stick cut down, you would have to push and pull harder to shift, seeing as you get less leverage (ever try taking ur lugz off with a short wrench?)

Any of you with SOGI have that problem?

So I've been driving with my sogi modded shifter for a while now...

And, I still love it. Personally, I don't see any reasons why you want to keep the stock tall length. Since the shifter is shorter itself, it does cut down on how much you have to move the shifter. Maybe it's because i'm still using my w58, but I don't find it too dificult to shift, infact, it's much nicer. The shifts feel a lot more crisp and percise, and you get a lot more feedback through the shifter.

For those of you using the stock shifter... try this mod and don't look back.
