jake it looks like ACT to me...

as for your future setup... i wouldnt use anything less then a rps 3200lb pressure plate for your setup..... you slap a weak pressure plate in there and whatever clutch disk you have will be slipping like crazy....

ask kelly ;)

The Lightweight Aluminium flywheels have a cast iron friction surface bolted in so maybe that what's welding and the steel flywheels being harder don't.

It has more to do with heat build-up, the stock flywheels act like a heat sink while the aluminum flywheels can't hold as much making that friction disc even hotter -- until it fuses to the feramic.

Some have had luck with the RPS flywheel and feramic (dr jonez for example), others have fused the feramic with a stock disc (MattoneDime). The key is to have a long break-in period (1000 miles) use a new flywheel (at minimum a freshly resurfaced stocker -- but only if it didn't show any signs of hot spots). Make sure to use new pressure plate bolts and to torque them down a bit higher than stock. After the break-in period, recheck their torque. These precautions should prevent any problems...

JEFF! Yeah, THATS the guy I talked to, lol... I hate when I forget names, I blame it on my old age, lol... Sorry about that Jeff... :)

So, Jayson, the ACT pressure plate isnt a good one to use? Its one of the PP's that HPfreaks offers with its feramic clutches... Where can I find an RPS 3200 pp?

I used a 3000 pp on a mustang I had back in the day. Better go to the gym & do a lot of squats, they're stout.

At what point does one need to upgrade to the rps 3200pp I am in the process of building my 7mgte for the 600 mark and I have yet to address the clutch issue?

well some of use just cannot handle the responsibility of breaking in a clutch.

Who knows why I killed mine in a year. I'm sure the PP did have alot to do with it.

Jake just buy a new one. No one but the orginal owner has any idea how many miles are on that one.

good luck :) glad to see that little clutch fork was your hold up

heres my input:

reusing anything in any of those pics is probably the worst idea ever.....but hell...do it anyways! :D

I dont believe you! Could you be anymore WRONG? I mean, whats wrong with using a flywheel that's riddled with hairline cracks all over it? :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

So is that normal for a fly wheel to have that much cracking? I wish I had a PT test kit so I could show you guys just how many cracks are all over this...

HEY! Could I get it resurfaced? What about my PP? Could I get it resurfaced or rebuilt?

*hey, told ya I would argue, just a LITTLE bit*

I come from a land down under
Jake: They can pop the PP casting out and resurface it no probs at all and will save you heaps.

As long as the Diaphram fingers aren't worn and it has no breaks it should be fine to reuse.

The shop that does the casting will check the rest.

There aren't many ways to increase the clamp force in a PP, you can put a thicker diaphram in (only ever seen stock thickness in all the aftermarket PP's I've seen) you can stack a second one in there or you can use Bob weights like a Centreforce.

There are NO Magic clutches and very little other than materials has changed in the 25 years since I was in the industry.

^^^ its about time you chimed in... So, I know the flywheel is a goner, unless they can resurface all the hairline cracks out of it... But as far as the pressure plate, can I get a local machine shop to do it, or is it one of those things where I hafta send it to ACT to have done?
