Why do you stay N/A, or why are you N/A? Do you just have it cause it's your first car? Do you actually like it? Do you feel it saves you money? Do you play on staying N/A? I'm just bored and curious to see what everyone's outlook on us is. I'm pretty sure most people hate N/As, haha.

I'm N/A because it's my first car, and I feel it saves me money since I know it's futile to put loads of money into it and go nowhere, and as of now, I have no idea if I'm staying N/A or not.

Man you must be bored:biglaugh:
I chose to stay NA for now to see how much I can squeeze out of it, I chose to be different and not say f#&k it and go turbo which I figured would be more expensive, I like the power now when I step on the pedal. I don't really care I won't see 400-500 hp I have built SB chevys with that much and a lot less money involved than a turbo Supra with that much hp.
I guess I'm a little bored myself:biglaugh:

I wanna go 2JZ-GTE or nothing...

I don't want to have to deal with buying a 7MGTE, rebuilding it, finding all the misc. parts, changing out my tranny (pretty sure my W58 wont last long with boost), and then having it installed, and worrying whether or not BHG or RK will get to it...

also, there is no way a 1JZ will be legal here in California for atleast 10 more years...

a 2JZ is a 3L like the 7M, and is way more reliable, and I believe if I retain all the emission related components, it'll pass the sniffer and visual inspection..

I'm not looking for crazy power, I'm aiming for 350 to the wheels, and I just don't want to have to worry as much...

Besides, I fell in love with the MKIII because of it's exterior...

I didn't know anything about Supras when I bought mine. I paid 4 grand for an NA that wasn't in the greatest of condition... but I really liked the ride quality and looks of the car... so I ended up buying it... not knowing that I could have had a turbo for the same price.

About 4 months later, after dumping quite a bit of money into it with maintenance type repairs, the engine blew. Just my luck... because by that time, I was already in love with the car, and it was still just an automatic.

There was no way I was going to let go of my car, so I found this forum online, and saw all the possibilities for my car, and started reading a lot on how to fix them... and I ended up putting another engine in... and that didn't work at all... so I put yet ANOTHER engine in... and even with all the hassles the car has put me through... I still love my car.

I have about 8 grand invested in buying my car, and getting it to move again. But when I really think about it, my car has given me a lot more in return than anything else ever has... this car has single handedly taught me everything that I know about cars.

Who cares if it isn't turbocharged? It can handle boost as soon as I have money to pay for it!

Cliffs:
  • It isn't cheap to drive a Supra NA or not.
  • These cars do need TLC.
  • These cars return the favor, every time they are in proper working order.

This is the first opportunity I have had to rebuild an engine and I thought it would be best to try the NA rather than risk messing up a good turbo motor. Car is pretty much a project car all around, my initial goals were 2JZGTE with V160 trans, Custom interior, custom suspension, custom body kit, paint etc. After reading through some threads on here and mingling with other members I have planned on keeping the body pretty stock, as much weight reduction as possible while maintaining a few driving luxuries(a/c is a must in Texas). Ditched my sound setup idea(now I have a lot of brand new JL audio equipment waiting to be installed elsewhere). My long term goals now are roll cage, R154 trans and a 1JZGTE with hopes to get a GT35R or comparable turbo. Never know what the future holds, these are my current aspirations.

Oh yea, I guess what really convinced me is when my friend drifted my car with a BHG and worn out stock suspension. Pretty much changed my additude towards MKIII's entirely. Although I don't see myself being a drifter(cost too much). It is nice to know what potentials lie in these cars. I think they are highly under estimated.

Maybe so......I see a lot of NA guys wanting to go turbo.

Every N/A guy wants to turbo :)

As of right now, all I'm trying to do is research N/As so I can give tips on cost efficient modifications that will make the car more enjoyable.

I bought the car from a friend of my moms. At the time i didnt know what a supra was. All i knew is it looked good and was exactly what i wanted. After some research i did find out about a "turbo model" but i didnt care.

I blew my first motor a year after purchase, because i didnt know much about the car,so i got a crash course. I had a JDM GE swapped in loved the new found power of a non-worn engine. That new "power" quickly faded, and i started saving up for turbo parts

Couple of years go by and i start buy parts with all intentions of going NA-T, but when opportunity knocks you better answer. First there was the probe piston gb, then i found a bhg GTE for $75 and i never looked back. The car is currently in the shop and i should have it back in about a week or two. For me its a dream coming true, but ill never forget where i came from :)

For anyone that cares : My "non-build up" thread, mostly just a parts list and some pics

I like my N/A, alot. I don't get to take it to any tracks and with the laws and tolerance up here I don't street race or intend to. I plan to keep it forever, but I also want a turbo targa to take in the opposite direction.

I'd like to make my N/A luxurious, lots of upgrades and resto, the turbo which I'm in NO rush to get I'll want to build it to around 400 at the wheels and keep a sleep look. I love supras and even though I want a turbo, I would never sell my N/A and I would never convert it to turbo. Either I get the turbo targa and have two, or I stick with my n/a.

Turbo guys who hate n/a supras love the boost, if you love the boost then you'll hate any n/a, for speed/track/racing purposes. But turboed or not, you can't dislike a supra if you're on this forum. That's how I feel.

I love my n/a. Hands down, best car I've owned. I've had a Mustang, Firebird, Camaro, 280z, a couple of older vehicles as well. Supra beats them all hands down for quality, ride, handling, and being just plain old fun. Now that I've got a few $$ in it, it's even more fun. As far as the turbo model, I'm slowly but surely building one. The n/a will stay my daily driver, and the turbo will be a weekend toy. Personally, I think if you build an n/a right, you'll really surprise the stock and lightly modded turbo guys. I know I've surprised more than one domestic....

Why I plan on staying N/A?

Ease of maintenance on a N/A.
Cost of maintenance.
Less things to go wrong with the motor.

I agree with Cuel. With a properly built and maintained N/A you are going to surprize a few turbos.

I'm going turbo, but here's why I like(d) both of my non-turbo cars.

1. Seems easier to work on (This can be argued)
2. No blown turbo's to worry about
3. More reliable (In a sense)
4. No tuning involved
5. No BHG's to fix
6. No worrying about boost leaks
7. Good gas mileage
8. Less overall maintenance work

I as a Turbo Supra guy-
Its the dissappointment I get when I'm driving around and see another Supra on the road, usually going the opposite direction, and as I watch and turn in my seat to see if it has the Turbo badge on the rear and seeing none, thats where my instant excitement dulls a bit. I'm excited to see another Supra out and about, but I'm starting to realize that there are less (obviously) Turbos than N/As around.

You guys that want to stay N/A, I respect it for all and any reasons, because turbo definitaly requires TIME and money, but I don't see why you'd want to stay n/a in the long haul.
Look at all the engine bays you can and list how many can Easily go turbo. Not many. The Supra platform is practically the dream setup, once you work out the factory flaws.

I also own a Porsche 944.
It Could fit a turbo, but a small one. Then there is the 951, the same thing but they extended the exhaust header under the tranny til it got to the intake side for placement of the turbo. And the engine is Slant. To the exhaust side. And the lay out is something that wishes to drop the engine (unbolt subframe and lift body over engine) for every little thing.

I love the Supra PERIOD. Just that N/As are missing out on potential. To go wrong OR faster.

i bought the car because i was in a hurry to get a car for school and i couldn't find any cheap clean turbos, and i've always wanted a supra. haven't been able to go turbo yet, but i've got almost everything to do it... so it shouldn't be too much longer

My dad fell in love from the first sight like 9 years ago. I don't have anything to choose from :)
I wanted to go NA-T, but I already didn't assemble the engine the right way, so I'm staying as it is.
The car is in almost perfect condition, until I don't race, noone knows, what's under the hood :D
