:1zhelp:Alright, I have been reading alot and would like to know why some people completely prefer the JZ engines over the 7M's? Also, what are all the engine choices out there, these are the ones i know something about:
auto/manual 7M-GE/7M-GTE
1.5JZ ??? NO NOTHING ABOUT
auto/manual 1JZ-GE/1JZ-GTE
auto/manual 2JZ-GE/2JZ-GTE
I have lots to learn still, like why do people go single turbo 2JZ, I thought it was only a twin turbo car?
:1zhelp:please help me become more educated!:1zhelp:

if your worried about smog... stick with a 7mgte.

but if you can afford it, get a 1jz. (kinda wish i had a 1jz now... but it would have to be a single turbo)

and then if you have enough money for a 2jz, even better!

IJ - i know you wanted to go 2jz-ge na->t... wasnt that because the mk3 CPS works on it? along with the fuel injectors and some other stuff?

It's about the best bang for the $ as you're going to be modding most of it anyway.

The stock twins suck for you LHD guys due to firewall interference, all of the GE single turbo parts are available and you're not paying a premium for a GTE so can shop around and find a good clean engine.

They will handle as much power as the average guy is going to make in a street car.

I would rather not try and do a swap, no time or money for that. Pretty much what is a 7m-gte capable of hp wise? I won't go crazy high but could it stand up to 400hp max (meaning 300hp range for a daily driver) with an auto tranny off a turbo car or would it have be be given a R154, because W58 sounds too risky.

i wouldnt try for 400hp on a motor with stock head bolts and a stock head gasket... your asking for a failure.

you obvisouly dont have the money right now to do much... and arent the autos from the turbo and n/a the same????

Namely more plates in the clutch pack IIRC. It does help though (but if you're wanting real power you're going to get it built anyway)

This subject has been discussed countless times, a quick search will bring up the info you need...

I'm pretty sure NA VS Turbo MK3 autos ahve the same number of clutch packs. Only the MKIV TT had an extra disc.

Building a 400hp 7M-GTE isn't rocket science:

-A good condition block with excellent machining prep; decked smooth, bored as required, ect. Whatever it needs.
-good head, stock rebuild would be fine. New parts as required on valvetrain... decked smooth
-Cometic or HKS Stopper metal headgasket sized for your required CR

Bolt that together with whatever pistons your heart desires, new rings, bearings, balance the rotating assembly, new gaskets... and you're set.

A turbo to suit, and lexAFM/550's and a piggyback/tune, and poof, 400+/-rwhp.

If you want a motor that does 400 without any rebuilding, a good condition 1/2JZ-GTE will do it. BUT... if you choose to go with a Japanese imported motor for a swap, you may end up doing all the above mentioned stuff to it, if it's a bad motor. It's called the JDM lottery for a reason, sometimes you win and most of the time you lose.

For a JZ swap you need motor mounts, wiring headaches, a bellhousing adaptor, clutch, ect, ect.

I guess it really boils down to if you want a 2JZ or a 7M. They're both good motors, but which one tickles your fancy... they both have strengths and weaknesses.

If you have issues with time or money, I'd suggest leaving the car standard. If you want to hold down 400 brake reliability daily and have no other backup car, I'd want it rebuilt. Yes, standard 7Ms can handle more power standard, but it is complete pot luck if your particular engine is going to be able to handle the abuse, and I personally wouldn't want luck to determine if I'm going to make it to work or not.

Get another 7M-GTE, slowly rebuild it on the side and drop it in when time allows. Job done :).
