ok, so I got it .

what are my choices ...

heres what I got ...

i think mines that blew up is a 3.91 or the 3.73 with like 166 K miles

I got thins one finally an was told it came out of a 90 an the ratio is like 4.10 with like 65 K miles on it ...

I think I would have like one with lower numbers cos I think I want that quicker off the start rather than better top end speed ...

first what should I do to this newer suposedly good diff before I put it in ?

can I or should I get it looked at meaning,, before i inistal it should I have it rebuilt ? and or can I have the gearing in it changed to a lower gear ratio like desired ?

then I thought,

can I just have mine that blew rebiult ? or would that be too pricey ?

Whould appreiciate all my options guys ....

an also,, when I got it,, I learned from DHL it was leaking ? is that a big problem ?

I come from a land down under
4.1's are usually T1 Torsens

I'd have it looked at by a good shop before installing it just to be sure it's not going to shit itself in a week.

The leak may just be someone has pulled the back cover and replaced it without sealing it properly Will.

Replace all the seals. I didn't on the one I bought and now I get to take it back down and replace both side seals. Fun Fun Fun...

Finally!

Actually, you've got it backwards, the 4.10 you have will be quicker off the start than the other two, they are for higher speeds....

yep, what he said ^^

replace the seals, have it checked for tolerances (or do it yourself as per TSRM), intall and fill with good lube and go hammer on it.

werent the Torsens supposed to be notoriously weak?

Only in high shock load situations Pete, I ran one for years above 450rwhp and the only failure I had was a pinion bearing due to high speed oil starvation. (exact same failure with an LSD as well)

TorqueSensitive diff centre ;)

If a wheel slips it transfers the power to the wheel that has grip/traction.

Much nicer to drive than an LSD and don't wear out so are more consistant.
(I use one in my 9")

is it still like a LSD so when you lay tire both tires spin ?

Yep :)

They feel really odd to drive at first and when you do nail it the car stays in a striaght line and doesn't slide down the camber of the road and go sideways like a LSD.

First few times I drove one hard I thought the clutch was slipping badly!

but both wheels spin if you free them up ?

how can you tell, if you have one? what kind of stamping or badging where to look to know ?

Open the back cover and get a pic ;)

Yes it lights both tires once you exceed xx Torque differential between wheels.

As an example of how it works say you have one wheel on the road and the other on grass and stand on it the tire that's on the road gets the power and you drive away, if you really nail it it'll light both tires.

Just make sure you don't nail it hard and just grip and go. If you want to burn rubber, dump the clutch. Otherwise, the Torsen with break if you do too many hard launches where you hook right up. In other words, don't drag race with that in your car or you'll be writing up another thread about your diff being broken and you'll let the car sit for another year ;)
