The reason why the stereo is like that is because the owner removed the cheap head unit adapter lol I will be replacing that anyway. My friend who helped work on the car said they changed all of the fluids a few months ago and drove it for 2-3hrs and it is solid. I also know a mechanic who will be replacing the head gasket and such, which seals and gaskets should I replace while getting the head gasket changed? It's a 20 year old so replacing some of that stuff would be a good idea while the motor is being worked on anyway.

All of them.

Be prepared to spend a lot of money on getting the head machined, valve seals replaced, resurface the head, head bolts, gasket set and of course the exhaust stud repair kit from driftmotion. That's just the head alone.

Don't forget the price of labor. Unless you can take the head off and put it back together yourself then yeah that sounds about right.

Little update

Well I went to check out the car today and it was very very quiet and sounded very smooth it was quieter than any car I have heard even new cars. Interior was better than I thought, everything worked but when I drove it out of the owner's driveway to take it to the dealership and no more than a quarter mile the radiator cracked and started steaming and the car overheated. We shut it off immediately so I doubt any damage was done but we did a temporary patch and refilled it then drove it back. The car hasn't been regularly driven in like 3 or 4 years so the radiator plastic probably got brittle and cracked. So they might replace the radiator hopefully not changing the price if he does that then I will check it out and probably buy it if nothing else is wrong.

IIRC, the turbo Mk3 was (and probably still is) among the quietest of any production car built in it's day. I've had the fortune of driving a car that was stock aside from the brakes and an HKS exhaust. I've been in louder Cadillacs...

Sorry to hear the misfortune of the radiator. Similar thing happened to my 88, radiator exploded when the dealership started up all the cars (to make sure they would) on an unusually cold morning. Good news is, I practically stole that car... they were asking 4k for it, I got it for $1000. New headgasket and cooling system later, and I had one of the best cars I've ever had.

Yea I remember my 7MGE motor in my old 88 NA was quiet but not as quiet as this one. Plan is to replace the radiator and the guy is willing to keep the price the same, so that is good he was willing to knock off a couple hundred bucks to have us fix it but my brother won't let that happen also the car is over an hour away so towing it home will be a pain lol.

Alright the plan is to go this Saturday to help my friend change the radiator since they asked him to do it, so I might as well go with him and I can get a better look at the motor and such. What should I check for when changing the radiator other than the coolant for oil?

I want to replace the valve cover gasket, where do you guys recommend I should get it? I've seen it on Rockauto.com ranging from 10-27 bucks and should I also get a valve cover kit?

IIRC, the valve cover gaskets are pretty cheap at Toyota, can't go wrong there for gaskets. :)

What's a valve cover kit?

Normally the valve cover kits I have seen for other cars include gaskets for the spark plugs. I will ask a friend of mine who works at toyota if he can hook me up with a valve cover gasket or gaskets lol.

Let me explain once again, nothing is technically wrong with the car and it is in great condition both cosmetically and mechanically. I just want to replace these things to prevent any future failures, also a valve cover gasket is nothing.
