found this truck near me, here's the details:

Asking $300
1983 toyota 4x4
5 speed
4wd
175xxx miles

looked it over today, tires had maybe 45/50% tread left, all a little low on air.
seller says carb needs rebuilt:
he says itll run if he pours gas down the carb but not without, possible problems could be fuel line, fuel pump, or carb.

front brake cylinders look a little leaky, nothing a rebuild of those couldnt fix.
bed has some rust on the sides. rest of the underside of the truck looks dry. frame is straight, all body panels line up. radiator is extremely clean, engine oil doesn't look bad. not sure about title.

last inspected june 03. what does everyone think?

thinking about keeping this for a daily driver up at school (a bit colder in blacksburg than salem, we've already had a few inches of snow last week).

i figure a full set of nice all season tires will cost me at least $400, so why not leave the supra at home and drive this.

Makes sense to have a vehicle to drive when the weather is undesirable. This is why I also have a piece of crap volkswagen golf to drive for the winters.

Its no $25 Plymouth Laser RS AWD baby.. I got her running today..I would try to maybe see if they'd go down a little more in price.. It also helps alot to just go junk yard diving to get rims/tires and fixing parts..

My old truck looked like that and I got $2500 out of it after buying it for $1000 8 years before.

DEFINATELY worth the money.

That truck is well worth $300. Hell, buy it for $300 and I'll give you $400 for it. :)

HELL yeah. Don't even think twice about it. They're super easy to work on. Check out www.yotatech.com for a very SM like 4x4 community.

I've got a '94 and absolutely love it. I'd LOVE to have an '85, as they're the BEST year in my opinion. First year of EFI, last year of solid front axle.

I yearn for a solid front axle in the midst of my nightly dreams... :sigh:

I'm with Mike, buy it and sell it to me at a profit! Hell, I'll trade you my '94! LOL.

found out today the guy's had it for about 3 years and doesnt have the title, but can go to the dmv and get things worked out...

anyway, i told him to call back after he got the title worked out and i'd be interested, but i'm still hesitant on the issue of retitling. anyone had to go through that process?

rest assured i would have jumped on it instantly but i've gotta get a trailer lined up to pull it (found one) and have to bargain for another parking spot at home while i'm at school :) i'm giving the guy a call wednesday to see if he's moved on the title. ran by today and found the VIN, going to try and find a place to run that.
