hehe, I'm getting my car repainted in the same colour.. bring it back to life and fix the little things wrong :)

So I might polish some sawblades or I might paint them

I finished up stripping the two rear wheels late last night and they look better, but not like the others I've seen

I know that two of my wheels have some oxidation that is refusing to come of with SOS pads or aircraft stripper...

The finish is all uneven...

Any suggestions...?

P.S. "Aircraft Stripper" from AutoZone is some MEEEEAAAN Stuff!!!

I think that is your problem, you probably blemished the surface with either too harsh a chemical or the SOS pads were too abrasive...I only used a nylon brush so I wouldnt damage the surface. My guess is your gonna need to polish the surface now. If you can afford the Mothers PowerBall, I would recommend it, saves a lot of muscle and time. also get the mothers polish they sell along side it thats designed to go with it. Pop that thing on your drill and go at 'em. might take a couple passes, but they should shine up real nice afterwards.

ValgeKotkas: I've got pics and am just waiting for me to complete everything and I am going to do a picture loaded write-up on the center caps and maybe the wheels if I can clean them up good... expect them definitely within the week.

It'll be my first REAL contribution to this community, so I don't want to half-ass it.

WeezL: I hate it... but I think you're right. I've been meaning to get the powerball... but luckily the mini is out now that will give me a hell of a lot more control. But then again I already have a good 50 bucks in polishing supplies from sears and autozone, so I will try that stuff out first.

Is it possible to go too deep?

yes...I think I know what you're talking about...It looks less shiny in spots? Or does it have spider-webby marks around the "saw-teeth"? Mine are slightly uneven from age, and most of the paint being gone already...

You should leave the stripper on for no more than 2 mins at a time...otherwise it WILL go through the finish. (or at least etch it really bad) This happened to my NA, because I left it on for ten mins...Doh!! I ended up just painting them to match the car.

Here are pics of the progression....lol

What I saw when I stripped mine was a few spots where the sand blasting of the slots missed the slot and hit the face that was machined. The wheels are not polished unless you pay someone to polish them. That shiny finish you see after they are stripped is a just a sweet machine finish from the lathe during manufacturing.

That's exactly what I'm talking about... except I left my stripper on for like an hour :(

I threw some NevR Dull on one of them today and was able to take off some of the oxidation or whatever it was but not the deep stuff...

I wish I had a spare sawblade to test this stuff out on...

I have 4 stripped, 3 SOS'd, 1 polished, and haven't painted the saws black yet on any of them.

an hour! :aigo: Jeez, i'm sorry to hear that! That makes me sad...I wish you would have asked for a full explanation...I would have been more than happy to do a write-up for you...:(

You can either get some sawblades from the junkyard...(maybe find some with metal center caps :naughty:) or you can paint them...I used the duplicolor stuff...you should also spray clear coat on them for protection...only use the duplicolor clear coat if you are painting them black, otherwise the CC will make whatever color is underneath it have a yellow tinge...ask me how I know ;) Had to repaint two sawblades because of that...

It's not too big of a deal... they look a hell of a lot better than they did before. Turns out I have 2 metal center caps and they stripped PERFECTLY! I need to find two others and then I'll be good to go...

I'm painting everything but the sheer face and lip of the wheel with flat black wheel paint... so I don't think that I will clear it... right?

I'll probably have these wheels for a little while until I get some money together to buy some decent 18's... after I get my Buell :)

Uh-Oh! Don't hype it too much or I will just put it off forever because I don't think it's good enough and then when it's finally released it can't live up to the hype!

Kind of like...................... Halo 2 :p

Mwhaha :) Need to work on them.... and find a way to repair the damages that probably the climate makes...shit (left one is polished a little with big grain)
Gotta fix these and some more worser on the edges
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Got almost out with a big grained polisher, but they don't shine as much :(
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Anyone knows how can I get the left one shine like the right one ( I polished the left one with some big grains, prolly gotta polish all, cause they're all damaged). I mean should I polish with some little grains or you have any other suggestions maybe?

Thanks!

Thats exactly what mine looked like when I stripped em. I painted mine with Rustoleum Hammered Black to match my trim color. After you drive painted wheels a few times the paint is rock hard from the heat the brakes generate. Mine are like powered coated now and have no chips and the brake dust washes right off. But I'm thinking that chromed sure looks good.

^yeah, I saw someone with chromed ones, so maybe if mine will look decent on the car, I'll try to get em chromed, if not, painting is in order.
Quite nicely painted!
