Any one ever polish a manifold ? I bought a extra manifold for my 1j that I want to polish. Just wondering if anyone of you guys had ever done it before. Looking for some tips.

It just takes time, a lot of it. The longer you take usually results in a better product. Haven't done it myself but helped friends. All those guides online are pretty much the same and have it right. Basically clean extremely well with alcohol/paint thinner/anything really strong, start with a pretty rough sandpaper and sand everything down really well. Then go just one step up from that and sand until all the previous marks are gone. Sand one step up at a time till you get to like 2000 grit then buff with a polishing compound and wipe off. Remember be patient, smooth, and use circular motions. Hope this helps

When I was gonna go 7m I bought a already polished one. It looked pretty good. but since I went 1j I'm gonna try and polish the one I just bought and replace the one thats on there. So that theres little down time. If i get the technique down I'll polish my collection of intake manifolds I have.

This morning I put a battery in the Supra to test the fuel sender gauge. Last thing I want to do it install it if it doesn't work. It works. Now I can put the fuel tank back in and move on. I got my manifold milled flat at Mission Auto Parts and Machine shop Monday. Moving right along.... slowly.

BTW, does anybody happen to have a memory card, and racing wheel & pedals for a PS2 they'd like to sell? My son just got into playing GT3 aspec and I think he'd do alot better with a steering wheel. PM me if you do and what you want for it. Thanks.

yeah i did it just to clean it up so its not polished but it does take off a good amount of the rough stuff.

i might try using a wire wheel just to see how quick it gets the initial crap off compared to a really rough sandpaper. lots of marks are gonna be left behind but thats why you finally end with 2000 grit and use a really good polishing compound to buff it out.

Tell me about it. I just blew my downpipe material money last night at my brothers bachelor party. We went to the Gentleman's Club. We had a good time though. I'm going to try to pick up and extra shift or two at work to come up with some extra dough. I sure do need it.
