That was an awesome video. I love what he has to say at the very end about being content with what you have. That's how I feel about my MKIII. I'm pretty content with where it's at. Do I want more... of course, but I don't want to go down that same slippery slope as he did. But then, I don't have the money to do what he did to his car.

I loved the vids, but I hate gopro cameras sound. I always say that when I see a gopro vid. Awesome hd wide angle footage... sounds sucks ass. That is all.

P.S. - Car has been idling funny (and dying) as if I have a vacuum leak. I looked around like crazy and still couldn't find any disconnected/damaged hoses anywhere. Then I started looking to see if I can find some kinda of intake manifold leak and sure enough I have one at the ISC valve. I looked at it and can see daylight between it and the manifold. I'm going to pull it hopefully today and put it back on with a new gasket and some rtv sealant. I think I have one of those gaskets left over. Anyway, I'll try to get to it today if I'm not doing the family thing all day. Or just being too damn lazy.

I liked the direction of the video as well. Not all about stats and numbers, although impressive make videos boring.

He reminds me of a buddy of mine with his MK4 that has also gone overboard with his build and now regrets it. He stripped up the interior including wire harnesses and for the most part turned it into a drag car. The car has gotten too undriveable so he rarely takes it out(800+hp on pump gas, no A/C, no powersteering, no radio, skinnies in the front, and pretty much no interior aside from the dash and front seats). We hung out on Friday and went to the store in my car to pick up a few things for a BBQ and he went on and on about how he would love it if his car was as driveable as mine so he could actually enjoy it. Not gonna lie, the comments made me apreciate my car a bit more than I already do. Earlier today he called me up and told me that he had started parting out the car to get some funds for a new MK4 that he is planning on keeping around the 450-500hp range so he can have some power and still be street friendly.

Why doesn't he just get a smaller spool happy turbo and detune it for lower responsive streetable power? Put normal tires on it, and install the rest of the interior and call it a day.

I resealed my iac valve, and idle is still acting funny. I'm going to use my friends timing gun to see if it's timed correctly. I replaced a leaky seal on the cps and may have restabbed it a tooth off. I need to double check that. I'll figure it out soon.

I've talked to him quite a bit about that already, but he insists that the money it would take to rewire the interior of the car and buy back everything he got rid of will come out to be more expensive and more of a hassle than to just part this one out and buy another one. He has two built motors, one is stroked and currently on the car and the other is built GE on a stand. He is using a Pro EFI to tune if I’m not mistaken. He says he will probably come out on top at the end of the whole thing moneywise. Although I don't agree with him he has actually gone down this road a couple of times before so I know he knows what he is doing. He already built 2 MK4s in the past and pretty much did the same thing. :nono: He hasn't learned to quit while he's ahead but he has the coin to make the mistakes.

He was also talking about using the funds of the part out to get a GTR since its the new thing at TX2K now and he goes out there just about every year. He did tell me though that he got to drive a GTR for this years event and although it was fun he didnt like how uninvolved the driver is in the car and preferred the Supra. I haven't driven a GTR like him but i agree with him; don't get me wrong, the GTR is a beast along with some other high end sports cars nowadyas but with all the new electronics like advanced traction control, rev matching trannys, paddle shifters, launch control, etc etc where does that leave the driver?

I was doing an oil change earlier and noticed that I too had a gap on my IAC valve so I tried to tighten up the bolts to seal it up. MISTAKE!!! One of the bolts just spun and never tightened. It’s a good thing that I got some practice doing the heli coil on my exhaust studs since it looks like I’ll have to do that to the IAC now……

That's exactly what happened to my lower bolt hole. It was stripped. I measured how deep that bolt hole is and it went in about 18mm deep. Only about 5-7mm of the bolt hole was stripped. I went ahead and found a stud with the same thread pitch and screwed it in there. Now the lower fastner is a stud and nut. I was close to doing that to the top bolt as well, but my other studs that size had damaged thread. I don't have a thread file to clean them up. I'll stick with the bolt on top for now, but really considering installing a stud and nut there soon.

Car is still idling funny and runs with a miss. I'm getting codes 24, 31, & 34... all leading to the AFM.
I did a compression test right before I changed the spark plugs.
1 - 120psi
2 - 140psi
3 - 135psi
4 - 135psi
5 - 140psi
6 - 140psi

I'm on a hurt motor. I'm not going to put any more money into this car as of right now. When I do decide to do something I will not be rebuilding this 7m. If I decide to put money into a car it's going to be the Roadrunner for now. Car is still running, but not up to par.

That is really bad news Rufus, I thought you just needed to dial the car in and you were set. Which one do you think is the culprit headgasket, valve, or the rings?

I did a wet test on the first cylinder and the compression shot up. I'm not really interested in pulling the motor out to find out what it is right now. Funny thing is if it is the bottom end it's not showing signs of worn rings. I knew this day would come just not so soon. what am I going to do now? Not a damn thing. I'm going to find out what's with the CEL codes and keep on truckin. I'm going to continue with my weekend cruises on the back roads around media lake area.I'm not going to drag race it anymore. I'm definitely not going to spend another dime on this 7m. I think all of you know which route I'm going to take next time around. I don't have the money to do that right now.
Mike I don't need that iscv right now. I think mine is ok. I just have other issues going on. Thanks though.

Ok ok, I've cried enough. Now it's time to man up and find out what's wrong with this engine. I'm going to pull it and see what's going on inside. I'm telling you the most I'll do to this engine is order a new set of piston rings and re-ring it if needed. If it has to go to the machine shop I'm not doing it. I'm not going to spend good money on this 7m. I'll go Gen III SBC on it before I do.

Lol.....first it was "I'm not doin nothin just drive it around the lake and no boost". Now ..."I'm gonna pull the engine and order rings...and that's it". You know that ain't gonna happen. Just order the 350 or a 2J! We both know where this is going!

That sounds like the rings but in the meantime you can probably just use a thicker grade oil to help limp her along.

Nope. Really don't have the time to mess with it. I did a cylinder leakage test on it not long ago, and again confirmed that #1 cylinder is not doing good. The air pressure was blowing by the rings. Air was coming out of the crankcase ventilation ports. I couldn't hear any come out of the intake. No bubbles pushing into the radiator. I really couldn't tell about the exhaust cause everything was still bolted on. Plus with summer upon us I really don't like getting into the garage. Too damn hot.

Well its been a long time coming but I finally got to putting in the final touches in the video for the March Fun Run at the Twisted Sisters, and yes Rufus i did put in some of that wack tuner music lol. The parts in the videos where you can actually hear the engines and exhausts i left alone with the music as the background but if you want to hear it without music at all or with different songs from your era let me know and I can make it happen (its just for fun you know):biglaugh:. Its uploading onto YouTube right now and since I live out in the boonies its going to take awhile, but i'll post the link tomorrow so you guys can tell me what you think.

Here's an update:
You guys remember when my idle was hunting around and dying out at times? Last time I replaced my cps oring because it was leaking. I line up the hole with the notch on the cps and put it back in with the crank pulley showing 0 piston #1 at TDC on the compression stroke. I didn't pull timing cover to confirm the cam pulley marks where lined up correctly.

Anyhow, I just came back from the garage working on the car. I pulled the timing cover, and lined up the cam pulley marks correctly on the compression stroke. I gained access to the cps and carefully pulled it out to observe the cps alignment marks. They were way off! I'm thinking it's because I was lazy and didn't confirmed the cam sprocket marks last time. Anyhow, idle is rock solid once again and not dying out.

What about the low compression and 9% leakage you ask? What about it? I'm going to ride this shit out until it's no more. I am not going to put any more money into this 7m. Maybe a turbo, but that's it. But as far as the motor goes... nope. Hell, I was about to pull the trigger on a part out and was really looking at this LQ4 here locally. There's two of them... one is selling for $650 and the other is $675. I was close to making that call to go check them out. I'm still thinking about doing it. Only thing stopping me is all the other stuff that will be needed to complete the swap. I don't have the funds now, but maybe by the end of this year things will be different. The wife will be going back to work by the end of this summer so we'll have some extra cash flow. Hopefully things work out.
