This is like "black on black" crime.

Expecting different results without changing the initiall act is tagged mentally lessfortunate or Insane, but hey like rcr89 said, sell it. There are definately people out there who would appreciate it more.

The 1J torque jokes are really starting to get old... -_-

Too bad, so is the theme of Blown Head Gaskets and Rod knocks being an inherent flaw in the 7M. At least everyone knows the torque jokes are just jokes, the supposed "reliability" issues are taken seriously and actually thought to be a real flaw in engine design with the 7m.

Everyone knows. No one swaps FROM a 1j because they cant take the lack of torque, though people swap from a 7m in a heartbeat because its "too unreliable" for them.

Just for fun I'll post a few Dyno Numbers comparing the 7M to the 1JZ. I won't post who or what now but I could do that later if someone really wants me to. These numbers were found from SM/SF, SF mostly though. I didn't match up Turbos or boost or anything, just found HP numbers that were similar and matched them together.
HP / TQ

7M: 419 / 424
1JZ: 441 / 341

7M: 478 / 481
1JZ: 480 / 456

7M: 512 / 503
1JZ: 507 / 418

7M: 543 / 537
1JZ: 543 / 467

7M: 633 / 559
1JZ: 701 / 521

However, as with all trends there are some examples that do not follow
7M: 479 / 439
1JZ: 508 / 501

EDIT: not that any of this really matters because you need to consider power band and gearing but still, just throwing numbers out there. And also, I'm pretty sure Toyota would not have replaced the 7M with the 1JZ if it was not "better overall". So, each to his own I guess.

Was it not Toyota that under-tourqued the head?

Was it not the owner that shimmed the wastegate, installed a MBC becasue shimming wasnt enough, ran double the factory set level of boost on an otherwise stock car, Racing that said car and ending up with a blown head gasket?

1jz didnt replace the 7m, it was in the same car of the same year, only difference was the market and emission regulations/standards.

the 2jz replaced them both, and not necessarily because it was better but because in 7 years new technology was available and they used it. I guess you could say it was better looking at it from now time, but in 1990, the 7m and 1j were top of the line, and in 1995 2j was top of the line. things progress.

wow didn't mean to set off that whole bit of rant. it is true there are probably maintence things i didn't do right and am now paying for it. i tried to do what was needed but underestimated what was going on. buying one that had 180xxx miles on it didn't help either. it was just an idea that came up when messing around with some friends. i realize that all the issues with these motors could be negated if people took care of them right. i wish i had so i wouldn't be rebuilding mine now.

How about a shirt that says---- Rod knock was caused by me because I'm stupid, or ----- Rod knock was caused by me because I don't know how to properly take care of my car because, umm, I'm stupid. It ain't the car kids. Spend your money on maintenance, not T-shirts.

Glad to see someone post this before I did.

Sure, RK is a funny thing to laugh at amungst the boards sometimes...

But do you really want gear heads and other Supra owners to have an image of you like that?

****[this guy must not know what he's doing]****

Aside from that, it's just giving one more bad rap to our community.

:nono:

Hey Tanya, I have a better shirt idea I think, how about
"This SUPRA runs from a DIG!" :naughty: what you think?
and then another one for the mkiv guys
"This SUPRA runs from a roll..." and have it a bright titty pink, I think that would be hilarious.

Also want to comment on the previous posts, 3000gt have a worst problem with rod knock, they are notorious for it, more so infact, mkiv guys get a bad rap for always wanting to race from a dig, mostly to traction problems and spool times, Camaros have shit rear ends that are prone to grenading, same with their crappy ass auto trans(I wont go there). What im trying to say is if their is a car with a problem, someone will exploit and bash the crap out of it. Human Nature. Just laugh and nod.

lol @ titty pink

I just think people need to have more humor about these car issues. Sure it's not funny at first, but generally, people learn from their mistakes and eventually you laugh about it. I am Queen of Mk2 BHG and I proudly sport my BHG shirt. I can look back at all my cars' issues and laugh now because it's my own stupidity. If you can't laugh at yourself, you might as well just give up and exit this planet.

i know of a 7m thats close to 200,000 miles on it and never has had a bhg and has seen 13psi before....

but to answer you
for some no but for some it is if your not smart enough to put on a metal headgasket before you start turning up the boost and modding it..... sure toyota messed up on that one but we all know how to fix that problem....and if done completly the right way no more bhg... that should be the first thing you do when you get a supra if you plan on modding it and turning up the boost. That and also rebuild the engine if its got alot of miles on it.... When daniel(supraswole) on here swaped his n/a out to 7mgte.. he ordered a jdm 7mgte and as soon as we got it here i tore it down and had it machined for metal headgasket and rebuilt the head and entire engine... Why because he wanted a good reliable platform for building hp out of the supra.... sure we can be humorous about issues that we encounter with our cars here but when you start wearing shirts around then when we get out with car gatherings we getthe dreaded, dont you have problems with bhg and rodknock ,so on and so on... when someone says something about bhg now i tell them yea but there is a remedy for it...then i hear nothing else.. but we can do without some stuff..... you know ive thought of going 2jzgte(not because of the 7m but because i like the clean look of it and its something different) but then i see threads like this one and im more determined to keep the 7m to show people what it can do...

ok im through... ill stick my tampon back in now:icon_wink
