Well today i put insurance, tax, tag, title, and registration on the supra and before the end of the day i have rod knock probably had it before i bought the car ive only driven once or twice before i got it insured. what do you say is the best way to go about fixing it considering im broke(just spent $505 on insurance) is it possible to drop the pan and change the rod bearings from beneath without pulling the motor?

I love all your sounds.
Zach, Pat's thread is impressive. After I posted "no," I rethought it, and considered that method, but didn't change my post. Sure enough someone did it.:)
You still can't just drop the pan.
I'm going to guess again here, if the R154 fits on a 2J, a W58 would too.

It's all here, search time for you.

go 1jz.. you can get a complete swap for 1,000$$ on ebay, including tranny, ecu, turbos, ignitor.. etc.. everything you need aside downpipe and intercooler piping.. may be a few other tiny things.

How complicated i a 1j swap ad will my tranny(w58) fit? I like the torque of the 7m but rod knock seems to be a big issue with them. Literally one day it seemed fine in the morning and wouldnt do more than 40mph by nightfall

you can get the 1j complete with tranny...

the swap is as easy as putting in a 7m.. complications are small, and differences are minimal.. all you have to do is put wire harness through firewall.. EASY, and hookup your random doodads.

Sorry, but a 1J is not going to be anywhere near that cheap...

Crank can be repaired, everything is fixable as long as you don't throw a rod through the block for the most part.

There I fixed it for you.

Goodluck with the swap, hopefully you know you will have to do maintenance on a 1/2JZ also.

soo. yeah,

A lot of little costs come up whenever you do work on these cars :icon_frow They're old, and there are worn parts to replace everywhere.

If he wants to use his 5-spd he needs a bellhousing, if he wants to keep the auto trannys (the cheap ones are all autos) he needs a different driveshaft. The wiring harness needs to be extended (not $$$, but time is $$$), hoses/lines/pipes are usually cut, if they're not it's still a good idea to get new ones. It's a really good idea to get new spark plugs, timing belt, accessory belts, etc while the engine is out too. JDM engines are junkyard engines too, even if they're from Japan. I'm not even considering things like the alternator not working or missing parts.

r154 bell housing can bolt up to a w58?

if your keeping the 7m your better off to just do a rebuild chances are there is quite a bit of metal floating around your engine now.

realistically thats what you would do for a 7m too.. so pretty it pretty much boils down to him wanting to do the harness and a couple small things..
