That list of "things to do" looked big... but I got it done!

Well, I got to the "start the car" step atleast.....

As soon as I start the car, I hear a very loud pitch grinding noise. It sounds like the noise you hear when someone has timing belt problems. A couple seconds after the car is started, it shuts off. It will stay on if I pump the gas, but the screeching sound gets louder and louder.

I think I did a pretty decent job with this whole project, I just need to learn how to adjust the timing belt better. Time to call a mechanic to my house

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak! Check all gaskets that were replaced, as well as the ic hose clamps... Some big culprits are the TB->Intake Manifold gasket...the little section of hose that connects the "3000 Pipe" to the TB...

Did you take off the ISC? What about the EGR tube?? Did you take the intake manifolds off? If so, did you scrape the old gasket off COMPLETELY?

Go around to every gasket/hose and spray some Carb cleaner here, there and everywhere...If there is a leak, the idle will increase...

How is the idle when it stays running?

Ok well i found the vaccum leak, i can keep the car running. but the loud screaching noise is unbearable and i wouldn't dare to drive the car with the sound.

the first time i started it when i fixed the vaccum leak, there was no screaching sound for a good minuite but then it came back and won't go away.

the noise is defenitly coming from the timing belt area. it sounds exactly like the sound my friend's car was makeing when his timing belt needed to be adjusted.

loud, scratching, high pitch, and well.. bad sounding...

FIXED IT! Turns out the timing belt wasn't evenly on the gears, so I fixed it and threw some belt lube on it. Quiet as ever.

I took it driving but it seems a little slow when accelerating. I'm going to check the plugs tommorrow.

hmm... lol... you have to set the timing to +10 degrees BTDC (before top dead center) it's really easy, you need a timing light, and you have to jumper two pins on the diag block, (not sure which ones), and you slowly turn the CPS while it's idling, until the light flashes on the "10" mark by the crank pulley. Right now, you have the timing set to exactly "0", which is exactly TDC (top dead center)...once you set the timing, it brings the car to life! Hopefully someone can chime in that can explain it better... Here's a link...

wait...you DON'T need to touch the timing belt! You just use a light, and adjst the CPS, until the light flashes on every revolution at the 10 degree mark (well TSRM says over 12, but mine is at 10*). Setting the timing is not difficult.

Wow.... timing belt wasn't even on the gears heh. Your lucky the gears didn't strip all the teeth off the belt. I did the same thing as you two years ago for my cam oil seal and replaced the timing belt. It all worked out with the correct timing and all. You have to put gear with the middle dot on the gear line straight up and make sure that the belt is go on tight with both side of the belt having almost the same tension. You just use ur hand and press the belt in and see how far it flex to check and readjust to make them equal.

I take it this is your first time doing timing belt? mine went smoother and longer because I had the manual out so that helped.
