you don't torque studs into the block, unelss you want a cracked block...

If they aren't coming out, the previous owner possibly overtightened them in, might have to pull the engine to get the head off and then remove the studs with the jam nut method...

Make sure you use the right size allen key (should be pretty tight), and if they strip, the engine is gonna have to come out (you might be able to remove the tranny and then tilt the engine forward to clear the firewall, but that's all up to you). If you're missing a stud you probably want to replace the studs anyway...

Thread two nuts onto the stud, then tighten the nuts against each other.Use the lower nut to back the stud out(that way if it tries to back off it's actually tightening itself against the other nut.)

there is a liquid called liquid wrench, struss or auto zone normally carry it. it work grate on tight or old rusty bolts, trust me, save ur self the headache and use it, cause if u break or stress the treads ur going to be screwed

My buddy left the engine in the car and just cut the little lip of the firewall that interfere's with getting the head off with ARP studs. Not the best way to do it but pretty easy and fast compared to pulling the motor

Glad you mentioned that cause I'm gonna be putting studs in next weekend. My friend told me to put some sealant on the studs when putting them into the block. I told him that if (when) I change the HG I need to be able to pull the studs out first then the head and he said it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not too thrilled with his idea.

I would think you should be able to get the stud out with a hex-wrench bit but I'm going to see what happens so be sure to post results.

Unbelievable! I've heard of cheap MKIII owners, but MKIII owners who are so lazy that they'd rather hack up their car rather than take the time to fix their car correctly? :3d_frown:

According to the instructions that came with my ARP head studs--which I still have handy, by the way--you’re supposed to tighten the studs hand tight. The instructions say you can put Loc-Tite on the threads, but that’s only if you have no intention of removing them. That could be the problem.

For the record, the instructions for my studs recommend a, 80ft/lb torque rating when used with their supplied lubricant…

a 3' breaker bar will snap a 1/4" adapter like pot metal...

Excellent comment. Way too many guys use the "my buddy told me" torque specs for ARP hardware, usually resulting in an over torque.
