Recommended tyre pressure

Someone told me that the wider the tyres the higher is the recommended tyre pressure.

If so how much does the tyre pressure increase with rim/tyre size?

On a mkIII running 18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 with 235 front and 275 in rear what would be the recommended tyre pressure?

He recommended a pressure of 40 psi (aka 2.8 bar).

It seems a bit high?

Since the tires are different size front and rear should the pressure be different too?

Any input?

I always run close to the max pressure on the tire. I have found that you need the max pressure to keep the sidewalls from being sloppy. Also if you don't the center of the tire will wear quicker.

Same but last time I mentioned it the resident genius's tried to tell me I was wrong.... blahblahblahbullshitbullshit.....

The general consensus seemed to be the 20 year old placard knew better than the manufacturer of the 35 series modern rubber I use...

Have you noticed the middle of the tires wearing? Low profile tires need the extra pressure to keep the sidewalls tight.

IJ, yeah I've been told the same BS, run at a lower pressure, feels loose, and wears them like the old tires did with too much pressure.

Ok, I'm not sure if I get the sarcasm (if it is there), but my tires says max pressure is 51 PSI.

So should I run 45 psi? 40psi?

I normally run 40 but if I'm going to push hard I'll bump it up to 44 Kristian.
