well, mods are important, BUT if the driver sucks then mods dont matter that much.

I think that your statement is true in many cases but not when it comes to a worked EVO or WRX/STI
You really don't need to know how to drive to launch one of those. Just mash the pedal to the floor and hang on. Those cars launch automatically with no driver experience required.
Unless this guy is pushing 450-500hp at the rear wheels I just don't see how its possible to leave a modded EVO in the dust.

Thats true but u are assuming a driver is descent with a manual EVo/STI, but even with these types of cars they could still miss a shift, bog out the car, and many more dumb things can be done to loose a race.
Now if it was auto or auto-clutch like the Evo X. Then i'll give u that.

The thing that gets me when I read a story like this is why the poster always feels a need to finish a story like the one posted with "and then I left him in the dust", or then I blew him away, or then I smoked him.
At least pick a car that a MKIII Supra could blow away.... there are plenty of them out there, unfortunately... a modded EVO isn't one of them unless of course you are driving around in a race prepped Supra.

I'm leaving an Auto Parts store one early evening.
As I'm walking out back to the Supra,
I'm approached by a guy that was eyeballing my car.

"...Really nice car, man. You got the SR20 swap?"

I literally had a 5 second delay before I was able to spit anything out.

From 2 other Supra owners, I've heard that with my lights up during the day, I look like some kind of exotic old Ferrari looking back in the rear view mirror...............Much better to hear this than a Nissan. :biglaugh:

Most guys (or girls) driving a modded EVO know what they are doing.. especially if they throw out an insult at a light.
The logical thing that happened is that the EVO driver made the remark and then as the light turned green the guy in the Supra smashed his pedal to the floor and the guy in the EVO turned into Starbucks for a coffee.
Just curious.. have you ever driven an EVO? Holy crap. They are crazy fast. The acceleration literally will peel your skin off and they launch out of the hole like you got hit from behind by a tractor trailer with virtually no wheel spin, hop or wiggle waggle at all. Just straight line shot out of a cannon acceleration.

I'm not so sure I'd jump the gun saying that a 4G63 Evo is "Crazy fast",
But they certainly are respectable cars out of the box.
Then again, "Crazy fast" can be a 14 second Z28 Camaro...Or to others, a 8 or 9 second street car. ;)

And just for the record, Try a Supra with a medium frame+ turbo and an Auto/Big Stall setup..........Rest assured, a Supra can come out of the hole much faster than a stock Evo. :)

Jeff

::Ninja Edit::
I'm making an assumption you're speaking on behalf of a stock Evo or one with basic upgrades.
If not, Your "Far from stock" Evo reference will be taken likewise with a Supra.
Go watch a 7 or 8 second Supra come off the line. :)

Actually i have driven an Evo VIII, and it had injectors, upgraded turbo , Apexi BC, intercooler upgrade and ecu dyno flash and other stuffand they are sure fast.
I cant remember how much horsepower he was making.
Btw the Evo are of such chaep quailty in the interiors because i believed that the money was spent on the performance part, just my two cents since i seen the dash of both the Evo and my Supra.

I come from a land down under
Driven a lightly modded 8 and while it was VERY snappy it ran out of puff quickly so had to be rushed through the gears to stay in it's powerband.

Don't know what the OP's mods are but from a standing start he'd need to have a very special Supra to have hosed off an evo....

- Depends on the Evo
- They have to be launched hard and it's bad for the clutch and tranny
- Most of their owners are kids that don't know how to drive or how to mod the car

Never raced one from a standstill personally, but I have witnessed it, and unless you launch hard you'll bog in an Evo. From a roll they're easy as the only reason they put down the 1/4 times they do is because of the holeshot they pull off, nothing else...

The last time I was at the track a few evos were there. Some in stock trim and others slighty modded. Nothing super performing. They were not running much faster off the line then most the other cars. I think they are very easy to bog. I outran an EVO VIII with small mods in my lightly modded rb20 coupe 240sx. If that can be compared?

Yep, they're not as fast as the people in this thread seem to think they are... at least not if the owner doesn't want to break his car...

I know some Evo owners and they are not novice drivers and NEVER bog...holeshot me every time and get about 1.5 lengths on me a little after the 60 foot. All because I have no first gear due to wheel spin on street tires.

I also have a buddy in a WRX STi with ONLY catback and bald street tires that ran down a GTO on big and littles at the track...he pulled a 12.9 at 116 I believe. Evo's and STi's are not to be taken lightly.

You non smokers need to dry your eyes. These cars get devalued from idiotic mods, and mods done poorly by the owner.

You smokers need to wake up and realize that all you are doing is messing yourself up...and smoking in your car decreases the value even more then mods.

Thats the way they are around here in Connecticut. The EVO's, WRX/STI's, the Neon SRT4's and of course the Cobra's. There are alot of them around and most of them are VERY fast. There are a few SRT4's in town that have smoked 500hp Cobra's light to light.
