My bad, the locks and keys changed at some point in 90 I think (EDIT, cars produced after Aug 89 to be exact). The key is a little wider and gets another groove in it as well as I think 7 tumblers in the lock, half go into the top of the barrel and half go in from the bottom.
The ignition is doable, but the front face is harder to get off, you don't just have to pry up some thin metal tabs, it's actually pinned into the housing, so you would need to drill that out and then re-pin it with a bigger pin or something when you put it back together.
