So i was driving to work, the car probably went like 2 blocks from my house and while driving I try to shift gears and it starts to turn off as if i was stalling out so I stepped on the clutch and let off and it went back to normal then 5 seconds later while downshifting it did it again and none of the pedals would work then it completely shut off, then I turned it back on and it went smoothly to work. While coming home from work it almost did it again but it didn't, any help?

Clutch switch has ZERO relation to this problem!

Too the op: how is your speedo working? Or is it working at all? This problem only show it face when slowing down? Only does it when rpms drop when clutch is pushed in? What is your idle speed when this is happening? Did you check codes? My na did this same thing when I broke the speedo cable...code42

the switch on the clutch only effects starting not running....definetly not the switch as you can start the car.

You need to get under the hood and check codes!!!!!!

Does it happen when the car is cold or at operating temperature? Assuming you warmed it up before you took off for work. And vice versa. And what he said about codes. ;)

Did your dash lights flicker or anything.. I know I kinda had the same problem as you but mine was a loose battery cable. My car completely died, I mean lights and everything. Just thought I would throw that out there, don't know if you have checked your battery/cables lately or not.

the speedo was working fine, I was slowing down and when i presse din ont he clutch and put it in second it started the whole turning off process on me and even when I let off on the clutch and stepped on the gas it kept on doing it until it finally turned off, I was like "great....the car found out I wanna swap it....now its kicking me in the ass for it" lol but the car was a little cold, the gauge was on the C but I had it warming up for like 5 minutes but maybe that was it because that was the first time i drove it the whole day...so for checking the codes...Im kind of a newb at that kind of stuff lol what do I need to do that?

your engine will run better when fully warmed up and all the metal has had enough heat to expand to its proper clearances. i personally warm my car up till opt temps before going anywhere.

besides that my car every once in a long while will just shut off on me. i simply pull over jiggle on the cps wires and loom right there and it will start. that side gets a lot more heat and will loose connection easier. but we need more information and further diagnosis by your part.

Cold or not there is no excuse for the car to act this way......other than something is wrong! Dude you need to check codes and report back....one must learn to check codes as it's a damn good way to learn what's wrong!

He did say it only happened when it wasn't at operating temperature though... Why would it only happen cold?

Don't know...I don't know what codes he is throwing if any....but maybe his cold start injector is flooding his motor...maybe his cold start enrichment system isn't working correctly!? You are not supposed to let a car sit and idle for extended periods of time...with fuel injection you should be able at start a cold motor and drive with no problems at all.....letting it warm up is simply hideing the problem! I've never ever had a problem with power loss or stalling in my na even with ice covering my car...but I'm not throwing codes either and I also failed emissions from running rich...my car isn't top notch and it's running better than his car so something is obviously wrong! Cold or not he needs to find the problem.

I put up the link for him to check codes and I'm assuming he did because of his post about it being "nifty". Now, all we need is for him to report back so we can further help him with his situation.
