I hate being left out, so I thought I join in the rebuild 'em group, too. :biglaugh:

What started of as a five speed swap has snowballed into an almost full restoration. My plans include:

  • Fresh long block with JE pistons, shot peened stock rods, Clevite bearings, ect
  • Dynamically balance rotating assembly(crank pulley, crank rods, pistons, flywheel & pressure plate) within a 1/4 gram.
  • HKS 2mm MHG & ARP studs
  • 5 speed swap (R154, of course), rebuild the tranny
  • Spec III Clutch, lightened Spec pressure plate
  • Fidanza aluminum flywheel
  • One piece drive shaft (steel)
  • Bosch 550's, Walbro & AFPR
  • Ron R. short runner FFI
  • Q45 TB
  • 3" aluminum I/C piping w/ MAFT Pro & a Tail BOV
  • DDP
  • FMIC
  • Electric fan, uncertain of which one
  • 1jz coil ignition (Like Bigaaron's. it's a possibility at this point, nothing firm)
  • clean up the engine bay. ie reduce the crap such as EGR & vacuum lines & of course fresh paint (including the under side of the hood).
  • Massive amounts of aluminum polishing.

I'm still up in the air about the exhaust side. Nothing firm on the exhaust manifold / turbo combination. That won't be decided until get off the fence with regards to power expectations.

Here's what I started out with & where I'm at now. I should have the short block early next week & the head back too (the head just needs to be cleaned & checked for flatness). Hopefully, the paintwork will be done this weekend or early next week. I'm swimming in parts (which Josh can attest, I'm a neat freak so this is driving me nuts).

I completed the paintwork inside the engine compartment. Major pain in the ass, but WELL worth it. I couldn't see pulling the motor & tranny, doing all of the mods & not paint it.

Now I can start the reassembly. Well, in a few days, I'm going to have to wait until the paint cures fully. I should be able to work on the car & stay somewhat clean. In the meantime, More polishing of aluminum parts. :icon_lol:

Mark: Very nice! :)
(wanna come over and do mine I HATE bodywork!)

Thanks, but :umno: :biglaugh:

It's lots of work. The cleaning took over 16 hours, and there's one or two small spots that fish eyed, but no biggie.

Any idea where I can pick up some wire harness covering? I want to recover both the engine & front body harnesses.

Yeah you really do want to come do mine you know you do ;)!

Do you mean the split convoluted tubing?

I got mine from a parts store.

That's correct. I looked in my local parts store for some today, only to find that they didn't have the right size, it was almost two bucks a foot & the only had it in Ricer colors (red, blue & yellow), not black.

I found a supplier on Ebay, so I'm checking with psifactor to see if she wants to get in on some & split the cost. I think she said that she wanted some too.

LOL, I'll do it as long as you tell her I did & how much it costs. :biglaugh:

On the serious tip, I'm selling my MAFT set up in favor of switching to MAFT Pro. I'm digging the A/F control & timing monitoring.

I ported my exhaust manifold & bead blasted it. I decided to run a MDC Ball Bearing CT-60, so the port work should help lower the spool.....

Just a suggestion (dosent look like you've tapped for EGT yet). Since you've got it out, and have modded the the "wall" already, You could easily tap the mani like I did. It works great for an over all temp instead of just going off of #6. Again, just a suggestion.
EDIT: how do you post as a thumbnail?
