After a week of rain, Friday stayed dry, the streets, perfect for boosting. The 7M pulled strongly to 6K, no misfire, shift to second, mash the foot feed, head snaped back in the seat... Wow! The Supra started to go sideways then the LSD helped correct, shift into third at 6K and I hit 60Mph... Now it's 'Race Ready 7M'.
The really nice aspect of this head work done by Brian Riley of M&B Cylinder Heads, is the snappy response of the engine from off idle thru 5K RPMs, where beyond 5K it tends to prove less snappy. Brian said that upping the compression ratio, would help responsiveness across the torque band, (or was it power band), and the proof is in the drive.
The head work allows the 7M to breath more freely. Had the budget been larger, we would have added a new, larger valve train, (like BC 272 cams & larger valves). Remember, this 7M is still breathing through the restrictive AFM and the stock CT26. Still... It is some wild ride. Yeah, GTE!

Whats your compression test psi? I went high compression also and its freaking awesome. I have about 165psi per cylinder and it starts to spool at 1750 rpm. I had to add extra grounds to everything to get the missfire to go away.

152psi, 156psi in two cylinders (had to check the spec sheet twice).:icon_bigg 'Race Ready 7M' is built to rev continuously above 3K, so it is a little loose up top and compression will go up as the piston swells.
I had to set base timing to 8 not 10 degrees, to get the performance I'm now experiencing. What did you need to set your timing at?

The Supra is going in for a tune this Saturday AM and we are planning to clock the adjustable timing gears, to tune another xx Hp/Tq out of the set-up, and take out some fuel at WOT (aiming for 11.5:1 AFR). I'll take the Video camera with me this time...
If there is any time left over, there is an RX7 oil cooler that needs to be installed. :aigo: Van

I'd love to see a 2nd and 3rd gear pull!
How about, a 150MPH blast down the front straight, out of turn 12? I got to 135MPH on the old motor... I'm looking foreward to see what this motor is capable of... Last time I had to work hard to keep up with the BMW M3 that was doging me in the turns and passing me out of the turns. I'd catch 'em at the braking zones and trail brake into turn 10, to get ahead of 'em, then go through it all over again, by turn 4.
This time will be better, as the motor is upgraded, as is the suspension, with RSR racing springs and Tanabe Sustec anti-sway bars, and upgraded Porterfield R4-1 brake pads. :evil2:

A standalone will solve all of your problems.

I would not get a AEM V1. I don't care who runs one successfully. You have put too much work into your motor to risk an AEM V1 failure.

agreed. from what I've seen the ProEFI is looking like a great system. Pricing wise, it is not a huge amount. If you get the Pro48, I believe base pricing from ProEFI is around 1100. Certain places are able to get them for less is they are authorized vendors.

I made time to go down to VIP this Friday AM, Supra went on the dyno; really fat on fuel from idle to WOT, so Ryan pulled fuel and started tuning. The 7M started to get knock when he pulled fuel from WOT at AFRs below 10.9:1, so he set it back to 10.5:1 at WOT and the knock is gone. We decided that we're not going to bother using the cam gears to tune more power, as it may make things worse.
I suspect, the next phase of the build (bigger cams and bigger turbo, along with a T4 exhaust system and a standalone ECU) will allow the 7M to breathe more freely. For now, I'm just going to enjoy what I have.
I've asked VIP to send me a screen shot of the best Dyno run, including AFRs, as an attachment in an email, so I can post it up on here. Van

Most likely when you were pulling the mixture back the ECU was seeing less load and adding more timing.

I can tell you going from the maze of electronics to standalone made a night and day difference on my car.

I believe you... My budget won't allow me to upgrade at this time, so I'm just going to wait, save and enjoy what I've got. This Supra is a blast to own! Van

That higher compression is going to like more fuel. That's just the nature of that beast...

Now, you just need to find a certain M3 and maintain that lead instead of losing it in the straight. :)

Hi Kenny,
Yes, I found it humbling each time that BMW was able to put down so much power and torque, out of a N/A four banger, to pass me as if I were pedaling a bicycle!
The old motor was stock except the 50 trim CT26 and 3 inch exhaust. Stock compression and fuel system. Response was laggy, so the M3 was able to pop around me out of the turns and I'd try to catch 'em in the braking zone, but mostly I'd pass him about half way down the front straight and three quarters of the way on the back.
He has since replaced it with a 2009 BMW M3 GT, and is now racing it, so I'll never catch him in that one. If he ever takes the old street M3 back out on PIR, I've got hopes to harrass him as he did me, two years ago. Van

So, now the Supra is tuned... I want to up the boost from 7 to 10psig. Does that increase need to be done on the dyno? The boost controller is a Blitz Dual SBC. A/F is 10.2-10.5 at WOT. Van

On stock compression that's almost a no brainer (with proper mods); but, 9.4.....you might consider doing that on the dyno.

You could give Ryan a call and see what his thoughts are since he tuned it and knows the thresholds of your setup.

Hi Kenny,
Coming from you... I'll call Ryan to schedule some Dyno time. Thanks, Kenny.
Also, here are some track times that are available in the local area: PIR, Oregon Raceway Park (ORP), Grass Valley, OR and Pacific Raceways, Kent, WA:http://www.cascadesportscarclub.org/ (look to the list of upcoming events on the left half of the site). I explored the other tracks, online, and ORP looks challenging! :aigo: Van
