I'm glad you asked that question. I was skeptical at first too, so I did some investigation of my own before I went under the knife with this transformation. So the Pontiac Solstice is a great car, but apparently not good enough. There is a shop out there that is called Mallet Performance. They take your brand spanking new Pontiac Solstice and put a corvette engine in it and guarantee their work for a year or some shit like that. Very good shop, doing a remarkable job with these cars. They bolt of the LSx engine to the stock (R154) transmission with an adapter plate and modification of some sort (for us, it bolts right up). I called to ask if anyone has had any problems with that transmission and if they have had to use the warranty on the transmission, cause I'm sure these cars are beat on after their transformation. Not one has come back with a broken tranny! Now the base model LSx engine does 400 tq. stock and they have a couple Solstice transmissions with the C6 Z06 motor so I have heard on the R154 transmission, and not one has come back. This goes to show you, that it WILL hold and it has been proven to hold.

Edit: I know they are using the 6-speed Tremec Transmission with the LS7 motors now, but I have been informed on the Solstice forums that they did the swap with the stock tranny and it's holding fine. That they merely did the 6-speed Tremec Transmission for MPG and to make the transmission a safe bet with the 500hp/tq. that it put on min. at the crank, but that the stock one would have held cause it has.

I havent seen anything about the solstice transmission thats why I was wondering about it. I have heard it bolts up to the 7m but I havent seen it proven to hold 400+hp/tq on the 7m. Don't be mistaken I'm not at all saying that your statement is false but I have yet to see it. Have any links I'd be interested on reading up on it myself!
Also I would be interested to see if the thrust washer in that r154 could be used in the 7m r154 since its better...

Lol still today they try to put a vette engine in an opel gt sorry for rant.

FYI the pontiac solstice & saturn sky came from the opel speedster base platform And not many people know the saturn sky & pontiac solstice is the 2007 opel gt

i think the pontiac GTO is also from the australian version of the opel comadore I think GM will do verry good by going back to there big brothers in germany for the truely well seeked out performance cars.

lol ok.. so what are the limits of the w58?

totally depends on HOW you treat it and HOW the PO treated it....FWIW my W58 had 150k on it when i slapped in the GTE.....tq went up to 330 or so for 20k or so miles, then up to 430 or so for another 2k.....then the trans let go on the freeway.

well i already have a w58.. maby ill jus use it till i blow it up.. then try to find a 154...

an R154 isn't even expensive or that hard to find. If you're planning on making any kind of decent power, just do it right the first time and use the stronger transmission.

At ecology in riverside off of main right now today they have about 4 supras with 4.30 lsds pefrect no rust pretty low millage considering 95% of the supras go there on BHG.

The diff there is 75$ you tell them you have a 4 speed trans 75$ but you cant take the shifter but since the top half of the shifter is part of the trans i tell them to get the top plate for the complete trans then they could keep the shifter because they want like $20 for it they have not been able to take it apart so they let me keep the shifter for free.

So paying more then 2X what you could find one for there is a waste keep looking you can find one I am sure of it i would sell you my R154 for 150$ but i will either sell it to my brother or keep it for spare.
