quick questions

hey hows it going, im kinda new to this site, but anyways i just picked up a 88 n/a auto mk3, targa top, 183,000miles for 100 bucks, so i couldnt pass up the offer. the body was kinda riced out from the previous owner but o well, the engine runs pretty good and the under body is near perfect, plus it was lowered.

so here are the problems, i decided to do some well needed maintaince work and i think i got screwed lol. i changed the oil and filter because the oil was solid black and very thick, i put some ams oil turbo sythetic 10w30 (that shits getting expensive 7.49 a qt). i also did some other maintaince but the one that i think really screwed me was using sea foam, i took the vacuum line that goes off the break booster and the sea foam is supposed to stall out the car but it just sucked almost the whole bottle in and started smoking horribly (supposed to happen) well the problem is, it still hasnt stoped smoking, im pretty sure its burning oil now and horribly for that matter and it backfires a lot more now. i wonder if the crap that was inside the engine was the only thing keeping it from burning oil. im going to do a compression check on monday. if anyone has any insight on what my problem could be, please let me know, i will greatly appriciat it, thnx

yea i just finally decided to start posting on here, wasnt really the body i wanted but i wasnt gonna pass up the deal. also yea thats my tibby. i live right across from the high school, the supra is now parked right next to the tib.

Total sleeper it may be.

But i sure wouldn't want to drive around in that. Don't think im dissing your supra AT ALL.

IMO it needs a lot of work. Have the body shop do what the can. Spend some money, dont be cheep.

Then move onto the engine.

Nice project supra, i ran full bottles of lucas oil stabilizer when i was burning oil, did it help, who knows, did i feel better about doin it, you betcha

bail out,strip the car of usable parts and sell them on eBay and make your money back plus some.
i'm sure the previous owner had an idea of what he wanted the car to look like,but the body on that car looks like poo.good grief,that car looks like shit.

Good God man!!! Makes me want to start a charity donation for your car. I hate to say it but part it out. You can make some money with the usable parts. Take that money and go and buy a car that is not held together by bondo. I totally feel you, my car was trashed when I got it but at least I had a clean shell to work with. I payed $600 for my car. I know you think you got a deal for $100 but to make that car presentable you would have to invest way more than you can go buy a clean car for. Sorry for being so honest!!! But like an injured animal your car needs to be put down.

well....i did a compression test last night and it looks like my number 2 cylinder is bad, 1,3-6 read 145-150psi and the number 2 reads 122psi. o well, now what do you guys think, do you think its the rings or is there a possibility that it could be a bhg.

man oh man that car is rusty. Are you sure the underbody is rust free? A 240 I looked at had surface rust like that and I was upset to find a shit load of rust up under the car. But seriously man Id keep looking for another car and part that one out. Its appearance is god awful and now it needs work done to the engine. What does the interior look like? It may have been just 100bux but you could make more than enough parting it out to find a decent car. I only paid 1000 for mine.

But if your gonna keep it you should do a leakdown test as well. It will help identify where the problem lies further without you cracking the motor open. And a definite way to tell if it is a bhg is to just take it to a shop and let them test the fluid

I think those fenders would look really nice on a painted car though

yep im positive the underbody is rust free cuz i put it on a lift and did a inspection. the interior is excellent. very clean and the dash is a turbo dash which looks pretty new. how do u do a leak down test. my buddy smelled the exhaust and said he didnt smell much oil being burned. said it was more like a sweet smell, like coolant. plus its not burning bluish so i dont know. also i just did a coolant flush so i dont know it they will be able to tell of oil contamination yet.

Ok, heres my opinion in a box-

You got a great deal for 100 bucks! A running supra for 100 bucks, not bad. Part it out and make some bucks and put that money towards another supra.

If you part her out, Ill take the strut bar and intake.
