OK Guys, Im about to have another car to use soon, here, so I want to MAYBE, MAYBE tear down my 7mGE and rebuild it PROPERLY. I didnt do a few things I sort of regret now.

I was lookin at an Engine Kit from a recent post...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986...tegoryZ33625QQihZ014QQitemZ330098613748QQrdZ1

And the question came to my mind that I really would like answered.....

So i get my crank balanced and cleaned, and the piston cyl walls honed..

Then I get this kit... with .20 over rings and standard size main bearings and all.. My question is, when i was rebuilding I noticed ALL the bearings are sized by numbers put with rod and crank or crank + black.... what I dont get is if I get this set, how are these STANDARD sized bearings supposed to work!? Do I resize them somehow? Same question for the piston rings... I dont get it, I really Never understood this...

Thanks guys.

EDIT: Just FYI I did look around but its just something Ive never found answered exactly, I always see send to machine shop or something, Im just simply curious.

Crank needs to be micced Main Bearing tunnels in the block aslo and the Rod big ends.

Once you have all these sizes you can then select fit stock type bearings, one size doesn't fit all ;)

So how do I order bearings, thats what Im lost on Ian, people cant just go onto HPF.com and order a set of bearings, so how do we get specific sizes?

Well you need the above measurements to start with.

The more "normal" way of doing it is to order undersize bearings then let the machine shop grind the crank to suit.

Oh, alrighty then... that makes sense lol. Well see how it goes, I just wish I could do all the grinding myself, I just hate sending off any part of my car for someone else to mess with, I always feel like "its a supra, its not a normal operation!" hahaha

Anyone else feel that way?

All the time ;)

My machine shop now speaks fluent 7M so it's not the problem it once was!

Well I work with a lot of knowledgeable guys at work in the shop that I trust, so Ill get them to help me out with all this. I guess I just dread tearing down the block to bare and sending it off with crank and all to some shop... $$ bye bye money again, if I decided to do this. What I really need to do is tear down EVERYTHING but bottom end. My bottom end is actually fine, its all my hoses, belts, and gaskets that need to redoing... The bearings only have 45k miles on them and its got a new oil pump with 8k on it.. crank 45k, pistons, 65k. Not bad and well maintained, its just otehr stuff falling apart that I need to get to.

Get some Plasti-guage from your local parts store. Pull each rod and main cap and measure the results. This way you have and "hands on" way to ensure if you need new bearings or not. The pistons/rings on the other hand are a bit more difficult. Better to let a machine shop take these measurements and direct you from there.

I plastigauged all of it last year when I did my rebuild *8k miles* everything was dead on perfect almost, including all the cams. Main bearings, rod bearings, all good, like I said, its the rest of the engine thats a little half asses, I hadno money left at the time and everyone except my mom up my fuggin ass about getting it done asap. Only car I have, so I half assed some shit, its time to fix it.
