I'm about to do another oil change on my 7M-GE, which has about 53-54k miles on it. I've been running Royal Purple 10W-30 for what I'm guessing to be around 6k-7k miles, I could be wrong, but it looks pretty dark in color. I put in a Wix napa oil filter when I did the change, so should I look at getting a new filter as well or should this one be good? BTW, this was my first "full synthetic" oil cycle, so I'm guessing yes?

I would change ANY oil and oil filter at or before 3000 miles (that's assuming you don't have fill it up periodically like i do) just to be on the safe side of things. Mobil 1 has that 15000 oil, i think that's a bunch of b.s. Changing your oil is one of the most important things you can do to your cars performance, so you shouldn't shirk on this one.

Yeah, oil and filter at the same time, always. Ive never even seen a place give the option of just one.

3000 miles or less too. Syn or not. On our cars, oil is one of the MOST important things to never neglect.

Yep at JAV. Synthetic has been known to go as far as 25,000 miles without problems, so I'm damn sure 6-7k won't be bad.

BTW, I got Q (Quaker State) 10W-30 Fully Synthetic.

I was actually under the impression from something JetJock said that changing your oil any more frequent than 3000 miles is nothing more than a waste of money. Im not sure but I also kinda got the impression in certain cases it can have adverse effects.

Well I'm at the 6-7k+ mark.

You guys also have to remember, this was my first cycle running synthetic, so it'll be good to drain and fill with new oil, because this oil has probably cleaned out clogged things inside the engine.

Well, that schedule is absolutely correct. I have never had rodknock in this car or any car I have ever owned. Oil starvation is the main cause of rodknock. I suggest you follow the schedule. But it is your car, and your money.

Well after this change I'll be good for the months to come then. I'll feel better changing it anyways due to this being the first cycle of my using synthetic, like I already stated before.
