i guess i found the flaw
i was going to write the whole story and looking for a picture i found this thread

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85760&highlight=probe+pistons

the wall beside the valves is too thin, i took my engine off cuase one cylinder was 0 compression, i thought maybe it was a ring, i looked the pistons and five had the thin wall around the valve clearance melted but one was horrible melted around those spots. I will upload pictures if i get a camera. I guess they can not take consistant 26psi out of a T70. (on 100 octane gas at a/f of 11.5.1)

Did you knock down the sharp points before installation?

Also, what piston to wall clearance were you running, when pushing 26psi on a T70?

If you scuffed the piston into the wall, those thinner areas WOULD be the first to go.

Due to the design of the piston in regards to the head, the only way to have done any damage around there is either 1) Hot spot created or 2) scuffed the piston into the wall of the cylinder.

Pics of the pistons, and the cylinder walls (all the way down, if possible) would go a long way toward seeing what happened there :)

Remember, too, that these were designed as better-than-stock replacements. Not ultra-high-end race only (26psi on a T70 is beyond what I had in mind designing these ;)) pistons.

I'm extremely curious to see pics of this!

JDMMA - How far do you want to take your motor? The Probes are designed for average Joe wanting a solid 400-500rwhp car. 26psi on a T70 would be WELL over that range (closer to 650-700hp) :)

i plant to be in the 500hp range 550hp max maybe 560hp but not going near 600hp but would be nice if it could take a little more. Turbo choice will be starting off my 20G and then to a T66 (GReddy T78 kit)

hahahaha i guess i got too exited with boost, i will take pictures as soon as i can, before this go wrong, i dont intend to say pistons are bad, with that issue solved they could take a lot more.

to a_sesshoumaru:
how much ignition timing are you running? 26 psi sounds a bit overkil for 100 octane. BTW, 100 MON or RON? Isn't it detonation territory yet?

to Doward:
What's the problem with probes in high output engine? I've made few 1/4 passes on stock pistons (pt67@22psi with WI). And I'm going to hit high 500s -low 600s with probes + nitrous for launch and spool-up. Will probes handle my goals (sharp edges smoothed)?

As long as you smooth any sharp edges (like I said, this applies to ANY piston in ANY engine) you'll reduce/eliminate any potential hot spots.

JDMMA - your goals sound very similar to my own! I'll be running a PTE67 on the Probe Pistons - I have no worries about how they will handle that ;)

I'm still awaiting those pics :) :D

I just lost compression on my 1jz and going to upgrade to a 2jzge motor. Will these pistons hold up with 500 hp 2jzge pte67 with the proper fuel mods and engine management mods?
