Hey John, just to keep everyone on track here, can you list the specs of everything that you are considering for these piston when you talk to the rep? I know you've got some sorta list hidden somewheres

Doward, I am xsupra87x2jzx on supraforums I was kinda up in the air about this. But consider me in now.
There is a possibility that I will be in on this group buy depending on my budget and when these will be done. I would need a definite timeline and final price. Don't put me on a list just yet...I will let you know when more final info is given.

I will most definitely need an overbore option for peace of mind that the bores are tight enough with a good cross hatch.

i could get some....but it would require destroying a block to get a sample for rockwell testing. The microhardness instruments I have at my disposal don't tend to get along with a cast microstructure.
I dont believe the rings should be custom. You may be driving up costs for future rebuilds,or the first rebuild like me. If the skirts are close to stock and they're coated , im in for a set as well. there is a good market for (better than stock)(not quite race) pistons!
I think I had read on here somewhere's (maybe a post by Ian) that coating on piston skirts really don't last that long... Just something I figured I'd thow out there, I'll search to be sure...

Ok, just got off the phone with Shawn (Probe's piston engineer) and we've got this moving!!!
1) First off, we can do 1.2/1.5/3.0 - NPR makes them (stock Mazda set!), gas nitrided steel top ring, medium tension (3.1 radial on the top, 3.6 radial undercut ring on second)
2) If we can get that Rockwell test, I am all for that!
3) The detonation rings and pressure accumulator between the top rings is a GO.
4) 83/83.5/84mm are all a GO.
5) I'm sending him a spare head, and stock piston, so he can get the skirt measurements from the stock piston in order to ensure clearance of the stock oil squirters. He's wanting to see how the piston/head interact, and see if there's any room for improvement there - I like him already
6) I'm sending him the spare head and stock piston tomorrow afternoon - by this weekend, he's hoping to do a solid model and get an idea (+/- 2%)
7) Pistons are uncoated - we can get them coated ourselves
8) Instead of .120" wall rings - we're getting .150" wrist pins 86L20 material (upgrade over their base pins - we can get them in their tool steel, if we want, as well)
9) Piston rings are currently $40/set (still @ the 15 set price)
The more of these we pick up, the more the price is going to drop. I've got about 26 (well, now 27 with White Zombie) people wanting in between SF and SM - and that's not including at least one guy wanting 10-15 sets for resale in Europe

i saw some of their pistons this past december at the pri show in orlando, they def looked and felt very nice. wiseco and je was also there and all had supra pistons. probe quality was deffinitly on par with the rest. im really excited to see the final outcome of these pistons.
