PPS Power Steering Pump to Non-PPS Rack?

After a lot of searching I haven't come across any answers. Does anyone know the differences between the PPS and Non-PPS pumps? I'm talking flow and pressure, hose/reservoir orientation, brackets, etc... I haven't been able to find anything online, TSRM, etc... The closest I can get is that the pumps DO look different by looking at replacement pump pictures

Although my truck is a 4runner, the concepts should be the same, My truck did not come with PPS (PPS was indeed an option for the truck too), and the pump is from a 91 or 92 supra with PPS. My power steering does not work, there are no leaks, I've cleaned and flushed the system with ATF, cleaned the screen on the reservoir. I did notice that when flushing the fluid while having the engine idle that very little fluid is being pushed through the pump. Since my rack was working fine with the original 22re non-PPS pump it leads me to believe that a bad pump is most likely the culprit. The question is now, should I get a re-manufactured PPS pump or non-PPS pump? I've already had the custom high pressure lines made, and I'd rather not have to re-make them to fit the non-PPS pump if possible.

the only real difference I noticed was the pulley size, though i cannot remember which was bigger.

I swapped pullies and I'm currently using a non-pps pump on my pps car.

Yeah, the PPS has the smaller pulley meaning it idealy has more pressure (hence the removal of the steering dampener).

Thanks for the replys all. It looks like i might be okay with just installing another pps pump.

GrimJack - There doesn't appear to be any plugs for the pump it looks like the only electrical is for the solenoid that sits on the rack.

Actually the dampener was removed on models without PPS as well as models with PPS. Not sure the exact reason it was removed, but it was probably a few things, PPS may or may not have been one of them.

Nope. The pulley was made smaller on 89 Turbos, and then smaller on 90 N/A's. 87-88 Turbos and 86-89 N/A's had the larger pulley. Dampener was removed on all models for 1989, and PPS was made standard on Turbos and optional on N/A's for 1989.

Nothing seems to have happened at the same time, lol.

An update to this. I got a remanufactured PS pump in, got it in the truck and my power steering is back in action. It's so much easier to turn this tank now! Thanks all for the advice!
