wondering what everyone has done as far as numbers on stock internals? I have a friend looking to buy a supra as a cheap fixer upper and using it strictly for bracket racing. Looking to do a decent rebuild but nothing big. Probably going to keep the rods stock but go with arp hardeware. So basically what is a safe number to shoot for on a stock bottom end with the motor being sound (no knocks, no damage to the rods, head work is a must on this project)

duane (upgradedsupra) did 665 or so whp. but shot peened and checked for internal cracks first. dotn try to do it on a stock bottom end w/o checking all factors.

honestly, im running a stock motor and stock hg with arp hardware, i just recently blew a hg after runnign 22lbs of boost on a t4 set up after 20 years of major abuse, and the car dyno'd 426 to the rear wheels, alot of people have called me a bullshitter, but all the philly supra guys who know me and what not know its true, so thats my 2 cents, stock motor built right works right

I've put the 7M through similar abuse.

I finally managed to pop my head gasket pushing over 20psi through an upgraded CT on a stock head gasket. I pushed it hard for over 6 months to accomplish this, however.

Duane's 600+ pulls are on stock block and crank, JE pistons, shot peened rods, metal head gasket, and ARP hardware.

DrJonez has run over 500 on a stock bottom end for quite some time - although I think he finally decided he wanted more power and tore it apart.

Anything over 400 will require some serious work on the tuning end of things, though. A badly tuned 400+ horsepower will pop gaskets, pistons, rings, and anything else it can think of pretty fast.

well Like with me Im shooting for at minimum 500whp. Now I have .40 over pistons, shot peened stock rods, head work, fuel system to cover it, going with a t70 setup, Maft-pro, 2.0 titan headgasket, and I should be able to obtain my goal and still have the set up for awhile (IMHO) I don't know I guess we need to tear down the engine and look it over before moving forward.

400+ rwhp is very easy for stock internals with metal headgasket. I have made 511rwhp on stock internals, but most of the time I'm around 400rwhp on pump gas. And thats been for almost 3 years.

I recently rod knocked my engine doing 145mph on the freeway early am the engine light came on, within the next 20 miles i got to work she shut down on me and was rattling like a tin can. I flat bedded it home. Trying to decide to build, 1Jz or JDM stock. who does the shot peening of the rods?

any machine shop can shot peen the rods. First you need to grind the casting marks off the sides of the rods and make a smooth finish. Then have them weight matched and shot peened.

Why do you have .40 over pistons? Did the block already have .20 overs in it and needed machining? Getting the biggest pistons for the car is only going to give minimal power gains. Now if you run those pistons on that block and for reason something fucks up and you have to redo the cylinder walls, you will more than likely have to get a different block ;).

X-Man has made good power on the stock block. He knows exactly what he is doing though, and does not drive it like that daily if I recall correctly.

.40 over was the previous owners decision. I would have just went .20 over myself but why switch blocks and start all over again when it's there and it only has maybe 12k on it now with only stock boost ran on a ct-26. If it goes after my upgrades this winter then it's time to go 1jz.

I'm sorry, that was on stock bottom end, not just the stock block.
