OMG! Im so friggin confused... My whole set up isn't making sense, and I need help, bad... I dont knwo what turbo I have... I THOUGHT I had a HUGE A/R on my hot side... I dont... It's only a .70... And my cold side has an A/R of .70 as well... They are stamped on the inside of the housings, see pics... I tried to take a picture of the numbers on the cold side to see if anyone can name it for me...

Bottom line: Is this a good turbo? Is a .70 cold side good? What does it mean? I know a 70 hot side is a good size, but damn it LOOKS huge... I swore it was a 1.04 or something... *swallows pride, and admits to being WRONG-O!*

Having a .70 hotside, I guess I dont need to buy a .68 hot side then, lol... But this throws a HUGE monkey wrench in my logic: Im not reaching full spool until red line, which is bad, and its struggling to get 15psi... Obviously thinking my hotside is way too big... But now knowing my hot side is .70, then WHAT'S keeping me from boosting? Why is my spool so slow?

HELP!

Ok, here's some pics...

BTW: here is my DYNO sheet... Maybe someone can help me understand by looking at what my turbo & motor are doing...

food for thought...
exhaust leak, before turbo?
wastegate leak?
intercooler or pipings leaking?
leaking somewhere at manifold?
turbo not spinning freely?
surging at turbo?

Well, when we dyno'd, we didnt find *see or hear* any leaks... Anywhere... And to have THIS kind of lag, I would have to have one major leak, right? If it's anything like that, maybe it's my wastegate... *T-netics Deltagate* If the wastegate is malfunctioning, like if its got a super weak spring, wouldnt that act like a monster leak?

But anyway, I still need to knwo what turbo I have, I need to knwo what it's capabilities are, I need to know if it's good or not... Because if its a pos, then I need to dump it and get another one... SOmeone please help me determine wth this thing is... And if the specs, .70 cold and .70 hot, are good...

What do you mean IJ? It's a stock exhaust manifold, but it has two T-4 adaptors sandwiching a dump tube that runs up to my wastegate...

Would tightening the hex head screw on the top of my w/g help? *pic*

Tomorrow...

I can tell you that they are rectangular, no deviders... Does that help?

AND PLEASE tell me if my a/r's on hot and cold are good... I need answers about this turbo... BTW: it spins REALLY freely, and has ZEROOOOOOO shaft play, in/out or up/down! That's nice!

Ok no need for the pic Jake!
(I thought if it were a divided housing that may have an effect on things)

It looks a bit like a T04R but the Turbine trim looks HUGE!

Can you measure the Comp and Turbine Wheels?

When you say trim, do you mean A/R? It does look huge... The turbine fins are big too... In order for me to get this turbo off, I had to literally remove the compressor housing, PITA!GRRR! So I got a good look at the turbine wheel, and the fins are really big... They are well over an inch wide... *can get a pic, if you need*

The compressor blades are bent normally... All are equally bent, none are straitened out bent abnormally... If I polished this thing and cleaned it, it could pass as brand new...

Compressor wheel is 60mm...
Turbine wheel is 73mm...

Hope this helps you guys in helping me...

Thanks...

EDIT: I gotta get to work, but when I get home, I'll take the housings off and take pics of the blades with out the housings...

With a .70 a/r, you should be able to hit 30 psi at redline. Just look at the guys with .68, they can hit any psi they aim for. I'm willing to be that it's your wastegate. Either the spring is too weak, or it's not closing all the way. Take your wastegate off, check for proper operation. Other than that, you have a major boost leak somewhere in your intercooler pipings, or your blowoff valve is stuck open? Check check check.......

One other thing.... Google 8196

References to cummins diesel turbos..... it's a start.......

You need to diag. the problem in steps. Put your turbo back on and boost leak test the system. If there are no leaks move on to vacume lines to waste gates, bov's, make sure your bov spring is tight enough to hold the amount of pressure you are trying to get. If thats not it move to your wastegate, is it opening at the right time, is it vented so that you can hear it open up, your turbo isnt that big that you cant spool it not even with a 70 a/r on the hot side, IJ is running a gt35r with a 1.06 a/r on the hot side and hes talking about insane early spool.

You are going to have to narrow down the problem, Jumping straigt to one thing or another isnt going to solve it, well it might, but you may have other problems that caused that problem in the first place.

Jake: "Trim" refers to the Wheel size in the T04 range it went by letters ie: M N O P Q and so on so you could swap and change wheels and housings to make the T04 work in a variety of applications.

So in effect a Q trim .7ar T04 is going to take more mass flow to reach 15 PSI than an M trim T04 and looking at your Turbine Wheel I'm guessing it's one of the bigger sizes!

When you pull the housings measure the Major and Minor diameters of the Wheels as this will help narrow it down.

The M24 Comp housing seems to just be a casting number as both my GT30 and GT35 use that casting but have very different sized wheels.

If that is the exducer of the turbine (the small part) 73MM is huge. Put up the turbine inducer size (the large part) one you take it apart.

To give you an idea, I think my SP61GT is laggy and my turbine exducer is only 61mm or so. My inducer is about 73mm.
