Picture of FIPG usage on Valve Covers during valve cover gasket replacement?

According to the TSRM and many old threads FIPG should be placed at the front of the valve covers when installing them.

The TSRM shows were to place the FIPG, but they are NOT clear about how much to use.

With this being my first time replacing the valve cover gaskets I was wondering if anyone has a picture showing the right amount to use?

My searches haven't turned up anything here and the Internet image searches have turned up some pictures I wish I could un-see.

Based on the amount of old FIPG I have had to clean off I think someone was using a quarter tube per application point

^. I am glad to see some one use the resources Supra Mania offers. Then ask a question. As you can tell they only want the FIPG at the edge of the cam caps. Good luck. PS i hope you are doing plugs and wires and sealing the Core plugs in the valley. Do use some FIPG on the core plugs if you remove them. On the threads.

I would use drain plug gaskets on the 4 core plugs. You have to remove the no3 valve cover that the plug wires sit on but it seals the plugs perfect. Fipg doesn't always work to good. Would have to clean the metal part on both sides and make sure to use fipg on both sides of it. The metal part comes with a rubber ring around where the plug goes and that's what seals. Over the years that brittles up and breaks and then the valley gets filled with oil and valve covers get replaced a bunch of times when there not needed.

Let's just say DON'T use Google search to look for things like "Blown CT-26", "Twin Turbo Lamborghini" or "Cam Cover FIPG".

You are generally safe until you start scrolling down...

Yeah, sadly my cylinder head cover no 3 was in a sorry state as well. Basically anything that was once rubber on the car had turned to plastic. So I got the infamous "oil cooled spark plugs" mod

Spent two hours digging bits of that old gasket out of the spark plug wells. Do not want to repeat!

I bought the whole new gasket, cleaned and applied FIPG to the threads and installed it as suggested in an older thread. But it is going on my 2 year check and replace list, along with the CPS o-ring, CPS Cover gasket, and oil filter bracket gaskets. If it gives me any trouble then I will switch to the drain plug method.

I replaced mine with a new Toyota one and installed it as the TSRM says and unfortunately I have a little bit of oil on my plugs again and it has only been a little less than a year.

Its not even nearly as bad as it was before, but it is still letting a little past. The only thing that worries me about removing the cover and using something else is that the galley would be left exposed and there would be nothing to support the spark plug wires either.

Btw on my previous post I said to put fipg on threads. In no way was is suggesting that you would discard the sealing washers " drain plug gaskets" . Yes If the "cover" is bad get a new one. Dealer can get new cover and maybe Driftmotion.

Here's hoping the brand new cylinder head cover no 3, FIPG on the threads, and proper torque will keep me oil free. Also glad to hear the problem is not as bad as before Silver MK3.

But if not I will definitely add the drain plug gaskets super51fan and many others have suggested. I had honestly debated scraping the rubber off the bottom of the new cylinder head cover no 3 and using the drain plug gaskets right away, as many threads indicated success using them. But I figured I would try out the new Toyota part first. Definitely going to be watching this area like a hawk...a hawk with a dental mirror

I heard back in the day of getting real service work. Done at the dealer. On 15k, 30k, 45k, 60k mile services that they would tighten all the cam cover bolts you could get to and tighten them up. Of course on the 60k service with spark plugs you can get them all. So maybe the next time you change your oil you snug up them cam cover bolts that you can get to. You might get a turn or two out of each one.

I didn't put any FIPG on the threads as the TSRM did not say to do so. Maybe if you do it wont leak at all.

I knew that my #3 cylinder head cover is in crappy shape, so I supplemented with FIPG when I installed it. I'm hoping that it keeps my spark plug wells free of oil.

Yeah, those bolts love to come out... I installed the SupraSport kit and they were still coming loose. However, I blame that more on the old rubber grommet washers. Like everything else on the car that was once rubber they were plastic.

When my cam covers go back on this weekend I am using new bolts, new OEM rubber grommets, and internal star locking washers (suggested by jdub in many old threads.) Looking forward to no more leaks!
