Well, I haven't posted in forever but I finally have a vid with sound of my exhaust.

Some of you guys might remember my 89 NA-T I did last year, in that thread I showed how I made a 3in catback mandrel bent exhaust for $130. I thought now that I can share the sound it might be useful to someone on a budget who doesn't want to drop $400 on a mean exhaust.

To recap I used.

$20 - 1x length of 3in pipe from local exhaust shop.
$32 - 1x mandrel 180deg and 45deg 3in pipe off ebay.
$78 - 1x Magnaflow 3inch in and 2x2.5in out muffler, part #12298.

I like the sound, it is deep and mean..sounds awesome at WOT. This is with a high flow elbow, 3in DP and no cat. 7MGE + CT-26.

that sound clean... I'm in the process of following something similar for myself. when the exhaust guy I was talking to said 250 plus I said hell no. cool setup.

I've got the same muffler as you, but mine's on a wimpy ass'd 1j so it doesn't sound like that.

Where did you get the flanges from and do you know who you bought the bends and piping from?

I did the same thing, but i let the exhaust shop do my custom 3inch piping.

Tissimo and i have always made our own piping. always sounds good too.

150-200 bucks for full turbo back is ALOT better than 650+ for just a gay cat-back

Reaper - I have to agree, most off the shelf cat backs are a little overpriced.

Jay - I will look back through my stuff and see if I can find the name of the ebay seller I got the bends from.

i got a local shop to do the cat back and i have a cheap test pipe i got from HPF and then a downpipe form BIC...works pretty good. Looks like you saved yourself some money.

OK, more info I remembered.

The Mandrel bend was bought from ebay. The seller is performance-curve. I just put 'mandrel' in the ebay search and it comes up. They also sell stainless, mine is steel, the cost right now is $26.99 + $15 shipping. I just checked.

The Magnaflow was picked up from ebay too, I can't remember the sellers name, I did this project 8-9 months ago. I just searched ebay now and the best I found is $93 shipped. That is still a good price.

To answer the other questions...

For hangers, I went to Lowes or Home Depot, can't remember which and got a 4 ft x 1/4in piece of steel stock. Cost about $5. Just bend/hammer it to shape.

Flanges - I had some laying around so I used those. Bigaaron sells nice looking 3in flanges @ Driftmotion. I'd buy from him.

I'm in the process of redoing my exhaust too. It's a 3" all the way, to a N1 knockoff, and sounds good, but I'm going to quiet it down a bit by adding in a 3" magnaflow perforated resonator, and double up the N1's at the back for a more unique look. Also, I'm hoping that having two back there might reduce the pressure going through each, and maybe quieting it down a bit more(when the silencers are in). I already bought a stainless flex piece to add to the separated DP to reduce stress on the manifold/bolts.
