Has anyone put a performance chip in their Supra? Did you notice any difference? Are they easy to install?

The only performance chip available for the Supra that we have found is a scam.

I suppose the Techtom ECU upgrade might qualify as a chip... but it's awfully expensive, even if it does work very well.

right on. they are all bullsh it stuff that they sell those so called proformance chips. like grim said above an ECU swap is the only thing and its going to cost $$$.
and the "turbo" charger thing they sell on ebay is BS too. good thing u asked before u went and spent $20 on some piece of crap.

LOL, thats a piggy back system, i thought u were going to go and buy a "proformance chip" off ebay.
ne ways i guess, im sure someone on here has tried it. does look costly tho, i would get out of the NA rut u are in right now.
go T and then BPU. then do electronics and such.

Costly? It's like $120. I'm just doin that (if it'll work, that is) an air intake and an exhaust. A year or two down the road, I'll do a swap.

Thanks for the info guys...guess it's back to the drawing board. Looks like I'll have to make do with an intake and exhaust for now. Are there any other cheap mods that yall can recommend for an NA? Just lookin for a little more fun, nothin major. I'll be either doin a swap, then moddin it out, or building a new engine within a year or so. Right now, she's all stock, and I'm just lookin for a few quick bolt ons.

you can bump up the base timing a bit. theres a mod that you can search for to make the computer think the car is cold all the time, which will give you even more timing advance and a few other small mods.

just save your money and go turbo when the time comes. dont rush it.

I dunno if any of u guys seen it. My parents went to japan and brought home best motoring volume 75. Anyways they tune the 350z and nsx with cams and valve timing. After they did that, they had a battle with the 350z, nsx, r34 skyline and rx8 turbo and the NA's were faster!
Btw all had BPU.

Thats true but I just thought it was pretty interesting. Is it possible that cams make this much difference with a tune?
I know those cars are brand new but I just found it interesting that they were easily faster than the turbo cars.

Use your money for clean up and replacing the items of wear until you can do the swap.

To make an N/A Supra fast requires a complete teardown/build up of the engine and other components.

If you want cheap power go with N02, it will give you the fun you desire and move you more quickly on to the engine swap stage (after you blow your engine).

If you truly want a Supra with the potential to be fast, figure what parts you need, start accumulating them, and then save the money to have the labor done by someone that is competent (in other words, pay someone to do the swap that knows how to do it).

My 90 Acura Legend weighed about 3400 pounds (at least), made 165hp at the crank, was loaded, drove and handled nice, was quiet, and when you were on the freeway doing 125 it felt like 65. It was probably about as fast on the 1/4 as a stock N/A Supra but nonetheless, I enjoyed if for 10 years.

Nothing wrong at all with an N/A, my point being is to not throw money in performance parts for an N/A (that will do very little HP wise) that will have to be discarded once you get the swap done.

Rambling here a bit but hopefully you get the picture.

Well i wasnt asking what would be best for me. Obviously the turbo model is going to be way cheaper than modding a NA. I was just wondering how much difference cams could make with some tuning.

Yea, I've called around and the labor's gonna run me about $1500 bones. I found a JDM 7MTGE engine with 45k miles for $1290. Are those prices about average? Also, the engine DOES NOT come with a wiring harness. Are these pricey?
