How do you guys like it as far as the sound, and gains are concerned? I've heard it makes a big difference as far as your exhaust sound goes, and I've heard the gains aren't too bad. Did anybody notice any gains in gas mileage as well? MA70Supra has a Pacesetter header for $100 that is already coated with high temp paint, and I was looking into getting this + 2.5" exhaust, so I wanted to know what your thoughts on it were.

Also: No "go turbo" crap please, I'd just like to hear opinions of aftermarket headers from people that have actually used them.

I had the pacesetters on my former 86.5 na. They are not worth the trouble in my opinion. The "high temp paint" burns off instantly, you have to grind the edges of the flange to get it to seat onto the head, and the collector pipe is mostly worthless because it does not bend around the transmission brace. I had to get it cut off and a new pipe welded on. This was several years ago, so maybe they improved the design but I doubt it. Performance gains were noticeable but barely, and I don't recall a big change in sound from the header alone. All in all it was a big hassle, cost a lot more than just the header, and didn't do that much.

I wouldn't waste my time and money on headers. The exhaust mani is just like headers. In fact, the headers I bought looked almost identical to the existing exhaust mani except you had to weld on the collector flange. So I never put them on.

sorry to steal the thread for a minute, but are the words header and manifold interchangeable, or is a header made up of equal length pipes from each cylinder or something specific like that?

My "new" setup consists of a fitted pacesetter and y pipe to a 2.5in straight pipe w/o a muffler. I was told by a ricer that car sounds like a fuggin indy car with this setup at red line. Performance: cant say.....honduhs dont race "indy cars" hehehehe.

Well I know it's actually supposed to be "headers", because "header" is for a 4 cylinder

if i remember right, it is header because the Inline 6 which our supras have is still one peice "header", the v6s consist of 2 headers hence "headers".

and i have been wondering about getting this also, i mean, u said it was $100, ive never seen it that cheap, or else i would already bought it.

what the real question is, how much would it cost to get it installed/modded.

because as u know, N/As power is limited, so why not dish out more money to get out beloved n/as more power, even if it is a little bit, which i doubt.

I have this ad for pacesetters were they say, "The most bang for your buck, Get the most horsepower from the money you spend."

To me headers arent worth it b/c i will be boosting, but for $100 sounds like a good deal.Even if there are "fitment" issues, maybe, but for the price you can get them for that shouldnt even be a factor. I say get it, install it, and report back on your findings :bigthumb:

My car came with the Pacesetter header when I bought the car so I am not quite sure about the power gains it produes by itself. I will say if you are getting a cat back exhuast as well I would take the header to an exhaust shop and have them enlarge the down pipe to make it match rest of the exhuast. The shop that did my header cut it at the "Y" section and welded in the larger piping. My header was also rusty so I sanded it down and sprayed it with some Hi-temp engine enamel, its already starting to chip off but it looks better than before. I think next time I paint it I will try to seal it with something.

Every little bit helps!!

For me, and probably a lot of other people too, I want something for my money. I don't have an unlimited budget where you can just throw money at something and don't get much out of it. And the more money I pay the more in returns I want. So headers was way too much pain for what I can see as little or no gains.

Just my take on headers................

Here's a page I found that has picture comparisons between a bunch of different headers and a stock 5MGE manifold. Very similar to the 7MGE, so it should still be pretty helpful.

http://www.pbase.com/suprafiend/m_headers

Looking at the pictures it seems fairly obvious to me that an aftermarket header will outperform the stock exhaust manifold.

That OBX doesn't look to bad!

I had this discussion a few weekes back (maybe months) and we came to the conclusion that the real restiction is not in the manifold, but in the head. The stock manifold flows well. I would invest in cams, and maybe a test pipe/high flow cat.

But shit, for 100 bucks id be tempted if i was still NA

Have any of you heard of the Tri Mill header? I beleive it is more common on Mk2's then with Mk3's but it does work. However, these headers are no longer available. George at Raptor Racing has had a replica of theis header made and is going to reproduce them. Recently, I was at a dyno session where he proved a 10 hp and 10 tq increase ove the stock manifold. This was done on the same day, on the same car.

This may be the option some of you are looking for.

I've got them on my '87 NA. Before I knew much about Supras I spent a lot of money on it.

Pacesetter headers,
High-Flow Cat,
Blitz Nur Spec Exhaust,
Modified AFM,
Civic Polished Intake,
1 Piece Aluminum Driveshaft
Magnecor Wires, etc

She goes pretty good. I can def. tell the difference between a "stock" NA and mine, but there's no comparison to boost. If I knew then, what I know now I could have done a lot more to my '91 Turbo. You live and learn I guess...

Yeah, seems like the actual engine is the problem, but I'm going to the get y-pipe modified to 2.5" so I can benefit from the full 2.5" system. Also, should I get a test pipe and eliminate my cat?
