painting the turbo compressor housing

im thinking of painting the compressor housing on my turbo since its polished and im not much of a fan of polished stuff.

do you guys think 200 degree paint will work or should i use 500?

if I'm not mistaken, vatozone has some paints that go way high that are designed to be applied to the block.

I'm with Andy. Powder coating will look much better.

But pretty sure you can buy some higher than 500 spray paint.

Plain old rustoleum silver has always worked fine for me on the compressor housing. It bakes on there from the heat and is hard as nails after a few days.

Eric Hsu from Cosworth actually uses this on his racecars (and made up his own name for it).... see "eric coating" in this article.

3x powder coating.

but if you want to go the cheaper route, there are higher temp paints that will give you more peace of mind than a 500 degree can will.

i used this on my exhaust manifold and turbo elbow:



rated up to 2000 degrees. comes in a variety of colors. not too expensive.

hmm well usually powder coating is the best option but kinda low on cash.
makes me think of redoing my valve cover to a high degree now

I would use 1000 degree paint. I painted my turbo housing silver. Or powder coat it.

I like powder because all it needs to clean it is Windex. To polish the chrome powder, I use mothers aluminum polish and it works.

I've searched but can't seem to find the name of this paint color. I would love to re-paint my turbo the same color as this CT26 the original or standard color as they might called it. It's the silver grey color.

Do you guys know the name or where I can get it.

I had a VHT flat aluminum on my turbo and it worked great....until a coolant line popped beside it. The paint didn't like that so much....had all sorts of spots on it where the coolant landed on it even after cleaning it up. Just saying if you go with the VHT paint don't expect it to hold up near as well as the powder.

powder coating can also burn.....

had this issue with an SR20 OEM heat sheild...

choose an appropriate powder vs. the appropriate colour....

bronze vein did not hold up to the heat from the T28-GTiR
